Fellow bloggers and readers,
I shall share with you this wearisome tale of today’s exhausting events.
Waking up to a beautiful morning at 7am, I felt compelled to sleep when awakened by a knock on the door by my housekeeper and the alarm playing Utada’s Devil Inside from my cellphone. Duty beckoned, so I set off duly to the school optimistically at 8, carrying with me in my pocket a measuring tape as ordered by the Leo Garden’s Executive Director Heng Li via SMS.
Tiringly, it was a muscle-tearing blister-inducing activity that lasted for four consecutive hours. Andy arrived late, and Shawn, as usual, the latest at 10.30am.
We did savour the much-needed water, in this case, a 1.5 litre 100 Plus bottle that “replenishes our lost electrolytes”. Liquid of any kind never tasted better in my mouth, and it’ll suffice to say that the entire weeding via cangkuls is not as easy as we had thought. We underestimated the garden, and overestimated our abilities.
Most unfortunately, Adrian went back home earlier with my keys and wallet as I had left both items in his bag, so off I went dragging myself to my humble abode.
Without resting for a minute, I showered, changed into my Leo uniform, and plastered myself on the computer screen for 5 minutes before leaving for Wai Hong’s house, as his sister was fetching Jon and I.
The International Understanding day, organised by the Leo Club of SMK USJ 4, was horrendous. A disaster would be too strong a word, so choose a word of your choice that denotes the correct level and strength with the events placed out for us - for RM15.
The Prime College Auditorium Hall at The Summit was excellent; it was like sitting in a cineplex, and impressed me very much.
Now, starting off with the song which I have been listening to at almost every event, was that dratted song Para Para Sakura. As expected, a dance followed.
The rest of the performances were okay; some were bad, some were good, but the worst had yet to come.
Imagine five Malay boys: one dressed in an army regalia; the vocalist, who had an ‘I-just-woke-up-peeing-in-my-pants’ hairdo, was drowned by the drummer’s voice, and I have yet to touch upon the music.
It was a musical atrocity, that kills the very meaning of rock, as Heng Li puts it. Volume was too high, horrendous display of attire, and simply awful loud nonsense; and as I listened to their ‘song’ wincing (if it was even a song), I felt like one of the judges at the first round of the Malaysian Idol, listening to performances of terrible monstrosities.
Much to our horror, after several performances, the ‘band’ returned with renewed strength, delivering their rendition of a Metallica song.
One by one, most of the audience left.
It was a sad day, fellow peers. Music was effectively killed. And I predict a huge influx of patients at the hospital requiring a diagnosis on their eardrums.
And much to our morbid surprise, the MC called it a stunning performance, and continued to use said adjective repeatedly.
The only performance which I felt the RM15 was worth paying for, was the sketch by SMK Subang Jaya, and Suet Li (aka traitor, of SMK USJ 8 :P). Extremely hilarious, silly and obscene, and that was the best one, which was unfortunately, not performed by SMK USJ 4 themselves.
The following events do not require much mentioning - maybe the dinner at McD, and the usual round of Bishi Bashi Champ arcade game with Wai Hong and Shawn.
We watched Lemony Snickett’s A Series of Unfortunate Events at 7.20pm; and I’d say it’s a must-watch miserable woeful show. :)
Wai Hong related his greatest nightmare, the vile creature called the cockroach, with much gusto that it was funny, prompting Shawn and the rest to relate their own tales.
It was an exhausting day. It started with a tiring beginning, ends wearily, with no relaxation in between.

- demands a string of hearts, several seasoned travellers, and two pairs of sloppy sandals. More »
