Anti-travel

Right now I’m feeling:

Yeah, it’s about the Port Dickson trip my collegemates and I had planned for next week. I don’t suppose it’s hard to decipher what that emoticon above meant?

It’s fairly safe to say that I’m not blaming anyone over the failure and hurdles of our PD plan because there are reasonable excuses made, although yeah if you want me to be brutally honest, yes I did feel unhappy and a little unsatisfied. It’s only natural to feel this way, or so I learnt, and I need time (usually overnight) to get over it.

As most of you must’ve known by now, through old entries and the small description of myself on the sidebar, you might have known that one of my passions in life is travelling, despite the fact that the list of the places I have travelled to isn’t very impressive.

Allow me to list down the usual steps involved in the failure of travelling plans I had encountered so far.

  1. One of us starts the idea of travelling to a certain place and everyone in the group begins to chat animatedly about what to do, where to go, how many nights to stay.
  2. Excitement heightens as we reveal this exciting information of a plan for a trip to a certain place to people we know.
  3. 90% of said participants gives the answer of “I most likely can go”, 5% gives “see first” and the last 5% gives concrete answers of yes or no.
  4. After a certain period of time, earlier 90% disintegrate into “I most likely cannot go”, while the first 5% of “see first”s finally decided on his or her ability to go.
  1. Various parties involved in planning decide to commit harakiri.

Someone tell me why Malaysians love to engage in the unenviable task of extreme short-term planning. Yeah, sure, trips to the nearby cinema or KL or whatnot don’t require you to plan three years ahead, but I don’t understand what’s completely toiling and cumbersome in planning months ahead to travel to far places. -___-

Take AirAsia’s special promotions for instance. Their booking period is usually short, and their travel period is usually months ahead, but at the same time, very cheap. Langkawi was only RM0.99 minus tax surcharges a month ago or so.

I asked immediately people on my MSN list but after going through 3 or 4 people I gave up in asking further who would be interested to go, since, Malaysians, after all, remain as Malaysians, and they couldn’t decide whether to go or not.

At this point, I contemplated travelling alone to Indo-China or find a travel buddy from the Internet, the former being more unappealing than the latter. Both are desperate measures I’m willing to take, because I’m sick of having to put up with excuses and a complete disregard to how the brains behind the travelling plans feel.

Which is why if anyone mentions/hints/asks if I have any plans to travel during our holidays, I prefer not to be the one doing the relentless planning and research because oh boy after spending 8,126,612,617,247,260 seconds of my life doing just that, one by one people keep backing out.

Maybe I should consider travelling across my house’s mysterious, dark attic in search of noisy rats running across the wooden beams or hike through the nearby oxidation pond of Court 10 and swim through beautiful, lavender-scented piles of poo.

    Right now, I’m feeling like
