Project 365 #22: Saturday, 7th March 2009

Celebrated my mum’s birthday a week earlier than the actual date.. at.. guess where.

Decanter Too! Clearly this isn’t my idea as I think I’d get sick of the same place no matter how nice it is.. but well as usual Decanter Too delivered. As depicted in this pic, this Grilled Fish served with Sour Plum sauce is an absolute delight on the taste buds.

The singer who was around during my birthday celebration was there too (not The Bartender though), and as usual, his repertoire of songs and his singing fits the mood completely. He even recognised me too, bless his soul, and kept smiling towards our general direction (we were the only customers at that time). I wasn’t familiar with most of the old songs that he sung within that half an hour (before he went off for a break), all but Ronan Keating’s When You Say Nothing At All.

Project 365 #23: Sunday, 8th March 2009

Talked to Gavin a lot when he messaged me out of the blue on MSN in the evening, and that was an instant dose of nostalgia. He’s a primary schoolmate of mine before he went over to New Zealand during Standard 5 or 6 I reckon, and since then we’ve been keeping in touch sporadically. As we talked, it made me miss the good ol’ days even more – but I’m hopeful that Tracy and I could come up with a Seafield 3 reunion, which would be absolutely smashing. Talked to Benji briefly (looks like he lost contact with Cikgu Thamayanti too, noes =(), then Joe at night where our Seafield 3 days were brought up again. Sigh!

So I was also bored as fuck as I was waiting for Kai Tzin to come to watch some movies with me at night, and whatdyaknow, as I was waiting and waiting in front of my laptop surfing around blindly passing away the time (note to self: don’t do something unproductive like that wtf), I found out that the bugger actually slept! To his defence he was tired as hell from work and he claimed to have sent me an SMS notifying me that he wouldn’t be able to come over, but well, I received nothing of that sort and was slightly worried that he was kidnapped/phone was stolen/etc when he didn’t pick up my calls.

So while still waiting for him to come (this was before I received a text message from him at 2.40am), I played Sonic Unleashed on Wii, happily defeating the icy serpent of Holoska and would’ve played all night long if not for:

which suddenly appeared out of nowhere, uninvited.

FML seriously.

I tried restarted the game at least 4 times before the same fucking screen appeared at the same exact spot each time. I resignedly gave in to defeat – that’s what I get for playing backup copies (what wonderful euphemism!), I guess maybe I’ve done something wrong while downloading or burning in, so I might just go to The Summit next time to buy another backup copy lmao.

Public holiday today – I don’t even know what it’s for but hey I’m not gonna question it.

Kai came around quite early at about 8pm whilst I was still washing the dishes, but it was only at about 9.30pm did we finally start to watch a show as he was busy transferring files from my hard drives to his own portable hard drive.

We started off with the Japanese live-action movie 20th Century Boys which was pretty good – it was nice to see my favourite manga coming to life on the silver screen, so to speak, but somehow I thought that the manga was able to pull off the enigmatic feel much better than its film counterpart. But then again that’s just me.

We followed it up with In Bruges, a movie I suddenly thought of watching thanks to Yasmin Ahmad’s post proclaiming it to be the best film she has ever watched in the last 12 months, and I’m just inclined to agree! I fucking love this movie to bits – it’s been a while since a movie tickled me so much, and I dunno if this means anything, but so far I noticed that movies which thoroughly humoured me were all British flicks (or maybe those with British characters in it).. I probably enjoyed the dry, sarcastic, and witty British humour more than anyone else. But In Bruges’ direction, cinematography, and script was just absolutely brilliant.. and all these coming from watching just half of the movie.

Why we didn’t finish watching, you ask? Kai had to go back early as he had to work (I sleep late anyways irregardless of what time I had to get up the next morning), so we stopped the film at about 12.40am, and will probably continue this another day or just rewatch it from the beginning. So please, for the love of everything that’s good, do yourself a favour and watch this movie.

Project 365 #25: Tuesday, 10th March 2009

A 1 and a half month old baby poodle, which doesn’t look like a poodle probably because its fur has yet to grow. Currently living in my college’s bookstore, and belongs to the Auntie Bookstore’s daughter.

Nothing much to add for today – went out eating zhap fan at the market with the usual clique (all 6 of us: me, Kenneth, Rebecca, Khai Shin, Mun Wah, Yen Yee), then we dropped by at the boutique for a while (which belonged to this quaint little cafĂ© with a very modern design, complete with tiny fishes to boot – you’ll understand what I mean when you go there, and we just might some day, perhaps). By the time we reached our college, it was already 1.30pm.

Both Kenneth and I picked up the forms for the RMIT Pro-Vice Chancellor Scholarship, and at the form where we had to register our names, we saw Ho Sheng’s at the very top. lol. Which makes about 4 persons who are registering for the scholarship now. Both of us were discussing the scholarship and contemplated offhand of doing a behind-the-scenes deal of sharing the scholarship should either of us won it, but I somehow doubt we’ll go through with it. :P

Plus I think my chances of getting it are severely diminished after learning from Ho Sheng that there were people who obtained a CGPA or 3.7 who applied for the scholarship – mine’s only 3.4, a far cry, and as my mum always said, best to try than not trying at all.

Also, we finished our syllabus for Introduction to Financial Planning today. Shockingly fast (probably the fastest ever a syllabus has ever been completed in college, for me anyway), considering that we weren’t even in our mid-sem yet – well actually, mid-sem break is next week, but this is certainly way too fast.

Also, a shocking revelation was discovered today.
