Had a good long chat with Heng Li yesterday night about careers, courses and stuff.
He had a pretty good idea what he wanted - marine biology - but it was against what his dad wanted. While me, my original idea of wanting to become a journalist was dashed when people told me repeatedly it wouldn’t garner good income. Oh well.
So I thought about being in the IT sector. But I don’t have much interests in programming. I’m beginning to think maybe IT-related stuffs are more like a hobby to me - maybe I can’t make a darned profession out of it.
So it’s back to writing. Or not. Maybe I should pursue something science-related even though I’ve zero interest of having it part of my career.
Heng Li’s ambition was slightly disturbed when he found out that he need to study Calcullus (part of our Add Maths XD) to pursue it. Hahaha.
I thought I have a pretty good idea what I wanted, but maybe it won’t work really well in the real world. Now as time goes on, as I know more about education and its reality, I’m not too sure either if I can convert my interests into a career.
Maybe I’ve been brainwashed by all those articles saying “Follow your dreams”. In truth, it’s hard to follow your dreams.
Maybe I’ll work with something completely unrelated to what I like. Just maybe. It all boils down to t3h money.
What I really want is to study in other countries and immerse myself in their culture. Because M’sia’s edu system sucks. The way it works, 20As will make you an omniscient. But my parents prolly can’t afford it anyway. *shrugs*
The both of us will be hunting down all edu fairs in the future; there’s one coming up at MidV on 29th-30th if you’re interested :P
