20 Apr 2005 9:11 amWoke up at frigging 5am, ate my breakfast, bathed, surfed the Net for a short while before I go to Shawn’s house and both of us set off together to the driving school. I was separated from Shawn for a short while and sat in the Kancil with three other Malay girls, and our instructor brought us around for a test drive at the parking, slope, etc. Shawn didn’t get to do that, but maybe because I was severely weak in those stuffs and he knew it.
Sooo..I’ll cut to the main points. We waited for THREE FORSAKEN HOURS till we actually get to do the slope-park-3point thing. I was initially in the car behind Shawn’s, but Shawn’s red Kancil had some troubles so he sat in the car behind me instead.
Man…you don’t know how fucking nervous I was. It’s 1000x worse than facing SPM (maybe ‘cause I’m too used to exams..spending like almost 10 years of my life with it?), I had butterflies and moths in my stomach..and I was very jitterish.
So I paid utmost attention and drove my car up the bloody slope, gave my number (54) and confirmed my name to the JPJ officer there. Now, here comes the I-almost-failed part.
I stepped on the accelerator till the engine made loud roaring sounds, while white smoke billowed out from the exhaust. I released my clutch slowly and didn’t feel the car jerking when it’s supposed to, so I freed the gear again and restarted from scratch - while the officer asked whether I’ve already changed the gear to first.
So..when the engine began to roar, I released the clutch slowly, felt the car jerking slightly, and fumbled with the handbrake trying to release it. I’ve always had problems with the Kancil’s handbrakes, so I used two hands on it. On that split second, the car DID NOT MOVE and even reversed a little, but my quick instinct stepped hard on the bloody accelerator and the car literally flew across the slope and went racking down the mini-hill.
I braked immediately while cursing “OMFGOMFG” to myself, while consoling myself with the fact I passed the first part of the test where many failed. Then came the parking. I was directed to Parking No 3 and did everything I was supposed to do – very slowly, very carefully. In fact, Shawn was on Parking No 2 beside me by then.
When I was about to reverse out from the parking lot, the officer came to me and asked whether I raised my hand (you were supposed to once you’re done entering the lot) and I said I did. He said that I’ve already went past 3 minutes (which I supposed was the maximum allocated time for each test) and I panicked. I thought I failed the bloody thing.
I went out from the parking lot in an extremely clumsy fashion, and did the 3 point turnings. You were supposed to move only 3 times while in that lot, but the car moved like 5 times because in my panic and worry, I forgot to change the gear and the stering wheel twice. >___> The guy didn’t notice though.
SO I FUCKING PASSED the first part of the EVIL test. And thus began another 3 hour wait for my on-the-road test.
Having passed the first (and what I thought was the hardest >_>) part, was feeling euphoric and strangely calm. I did the whole thing with minor mistakes, like not knowing where to go and ended up circling the roundabout twice, and forgot the signals at one or two places, but other than that, it was perfectly fine.
So we went back finally at 4:15pm. Evil stupid test with its 270 candidates today ;_; But I’m extremely happy today, in a very good mood, and I feel like splurging my money on anything today. :)
Shawn’s dad bought the number 5354 (in Cantonese..”mm sam mm sei” which means something like..nonsensical or mischevious or something of that sort). Shawn got the number 53, while mine – 54. Pics at: http://saigo.lifelogger.com.
