In: Work
18 Mar 2005 2:38 pmJon stayed overnight at my house..and we both woke up at about 5:15am. My head was in a huge daze as I managed to sleep at about 2am after we turned off the lights at about 12:45am AFTER watching Latte at 8.
HL arrived at my house at 5.30am..and off we went at 6.10am to pick Suet Li up from inside Court 8. Arrived early at our destination near PJ Hilton at 6.30am, so we went ahead to the nearby mamak for some early breakfast.
As usual, because of the severe lack of sleep, my head felt like a huge block of numbing ice so my mind wasn’t focused..so I managed to sleep a little in the hour-long journey to Sepang in the bus.
First impression: whoaaaaaa. As we get our “Official Programme” T-shirt (Petronas, it’s green – more pics at my Lifelogger), an “Official Programme” black bag, an “Official Programme” black pouch, a Petronas green hat..yeah that’s about it. And we have to wear the offending yellow neon vest which is a huge eye-sore tomorrow onwards..ugh.
And yeah, we get to have THREE T-shirts for the three days we’re working at. :D Although..it’s not exactly the type you wanna wear when you go out ~__~
Second impression: HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT FUCKING HOT. And tiring. Try standing from 8am to 4.30pm, people. :) Tiring is a huge understatement. So with the humongous amount of sweat we excreted..we aren’t exactly the best-smelling people in the world..plus there’s actually SALT on our shirt/hair/skin as it evaporated because it was too darned hot.
I suppose it was a good experience..speaking to those foreigners - there are some Japanese, Norwegian (I couldn’t tell these Europeans and other foreigners apart, these Norwegians revealed their nationality to us), English, Americans..well you get the idea.
Of all the “Official Programme” books I managed to sell (for RM40 each), 99.99% were the AngMos while the minority was a single Malaysian. Malaysians, in general, are:
- snobbish (the Chinese race particularly, ugh..I despise. Yes, I’m a Chinese)
- kiam siap
- evil idiots who wouldn’t even look at your face and turn away when approached
Soon after all the semangat we have for the first three hours dies away, we realised it’s far better to have them coming to us instead of us approaching them.
There were about 6 kiosks in all and we were divided accordingly: Heng Li, Jon, Kean Leong and I were in Kiosk 1 near the entrance while Suet Li is in Kiosk 6 further inside the compound. We have Pauline, whom we nicknamed “Frenchy” as the leader of Kiosk 1, who can converse in French with our bosses..Nicolas (“Nee-ko-laa”) and “Na-choo”.
Apart from the melting pot of Sepang F1, and the strain of my leg muscles, and not eating lunch, and suffer dehydration, it was okay overall..good experience ya know. There are other booths like Marlboro and Mercedes..etc. Attractive girls in those booths.
We were also given a wristband which we can’t take off (well, me and HL couldn’t take it off) till Sunday..which allows us access to the “Mall” area of F1 Sepang. Did I also mention we have this cool-looking pass with my name printed on it? :) Pauline’s pass was confiscated by security guards when she attempted to enter the “Mall” area as the name on the pass and her real name did not tally up..because she replaced the original person.
Waited from 4.30pm till 6.00pm for our bus (and gobbled up two RM1 ice-creams)..and we were dropped off at Pyramid. Ate dinner at McD with Suet, Heng and KL..and then walked around minus Suet who went off with her boyfriend Baz..and I’m home at about 9.30pm.
RM250 to go. And I’m blacker.
