As you can see, my youngest brother Brandon who has Down Syndrome just upped and disappeared again WTF and caused the same ol’ worry and panic and that nauseating feeling of helplessness to the rest of my family, like what happened exactly 2 years ago.
I reached home at 4am earlier this morning (more on this later) and at 8am my dad banged on my door, and in a panicky voice told me that “Brandon is missing lah!!”.
I had lack of sleep due to yesterday’s drinking session/gathering that lasted till very late and the residues of alcohol was probably getting to my head ‘cause I had a pounding headache when I woke up. But my other brother and I wasted no time to get out from the house to search for him.. and with the ache still throbbing in my head, I realised that this is stupid and futile – it’s quite a searching-for-a-needle-in-a-haystack scenario as my brother could be anywhere, given our previous experience when he managed to get himself all the way to Subang Parade. -_____-
And so. I SMSed the rest of my friends who were probably asleep in the early hours of the morning (I think that’s exactly what I did last 2 years wtf – the SMSing I mean) while I had my brother drove the two of us to Subang Parade to see if the rascal was there (I had a headache and was in no condition to drive).
Lo and behold he was there!!
Nolah wtf the shops were still closed and the information counter was quite as deserted as the rest of Subang Parade. And there I was feeling fucking helpless again – my age may be 20 but when it comes to dire situations like this, I don’t have the knowledge nor the means to step up to be the ‘man of the house’ to calm down a pair of panicky parents and assume the necessary role and take steps to recover my brother.
Thankfully by then I had replies from Wai Hong (who immediately set out to cycle around the USJ 14 neighbourhood and playground), Yen, Heng, Jess, and Sarah, and I then realised it was quite stupid to come all the way to Parade without bringing photos of Brandon etc. :/
After talking to two random people, one of whom works at Skin Food and another was a cleaner kakak, I spotted someone who looked like a security guard and spun this tale of a missing brother to him, but he then contacted some other person through his walkie-talkie (who was very apathetic by the way), and then directed me to this burly man in uniform who has ‘Head of Security’ written all over him, whose first words to me were “YAO MEI YEH SI ARRR!” in perfect Cantonese tones.
Since my Canto is much worse than my Mandarin, I started my missing brother tale again in hua yu (fuyoh suddenly damn fluent ok wtf) and then he stopped me by saying “Eh boleh cakap Bahasa Melayu ah”.
..wtf. On closer look he turned out to be Malay -___-.
Then he told me they needed a copy of the police report lah this lah that lah and must wait for three working days lah (joke from a Singaporean movie if you don’t get it) and sounded almost accusatory for not bringing all the stuffs he mentioned before going all the way to Parade. I told him I’m not very aware of the procedures ‘cause we don’t lose my brother every single day or something, and told him I’ll return with the things he needed.
Fast forward to me reaching home, got in to take the hastily drawn-up poster of my brother and the police report to photostat, then went out to the porch just in time to see Heng arriving in his dad’s Waja. We set off to the camera shop behind my house to photocopy the papers, then went back home again to see the entire kampung there: Shawn, Yen, Jess, Sarah, and Wai Hong (on his bicycle).
Wai Hong damn semangat seriously damn respect and thankful for what he did. He told us in a comical fashion (later on) that just as he was about to set out on his bike, he discovered that his tyres had no air in them and he was like “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo!” hands raising up to the air and stuff HAHAHA.
Anyway I got in into Heng’s car with Wai Hong, Shawn and Yen in one, and Sarah and Jess in another, and we moved out like some TV series police drama with each car going to different places – Heng’s car was to go to Pyramid, Yen’s car to Parade, and Sarah’s car to Summit/Giant. Mobilising search parties at its peak efficiency.
Halfway through at USJ 9 business centre had to meet up with Yen’s car to pass to her some copies of the police reports that the security guards of Parade required.
We were then at the Summit traffic lights very near to the junctions to the highways, and I was this close to SMSing Chris to help me post on Facebook and contact some of his prominent blogger-friends to help me disseminate the message of my missing brother. :/ By then I thought my youngest brother could really be anywhere in Klang Valley from 1 Utama/Ikea (his favourite mall) to Parade.
But thankfully my mum rang me up and said that Brandon was found and that he was now in the police station in Taipan (never heard of its existence till then). Blablabla long story short after going back to my house then setting off to the aforementioned police station, the other two search parties were there and my dad had finally secured him (I misheard it as Jessica’s dad wtf).
And so the same huge relief set in. We were a little afraid this would be another Sharlinie.
And no my brother cannot do this disappearing act bi-annually because it’s emotionally taxing, and we had to expend so much effort, energy and time to find him, and I hate to trouble my friends again each time my brother picked himself up and walked out from the house. Does anyone know of any shops selling GPS implants or trackers or something of that sort??
Yes, by then my relatives and neighbours and parents’ friends were all at my house like a huge party and I am quite annoyed when my mum kept hyping up to everyone else when I told her that I can’t ring my friends up ‘cause they could be sleeping. I think SMSing to 10-odd people would be a far more effective job than ringing each one of them up. -___-
So the rough gist of my brother’s vanishing act was something like this: he woke up earlier than any of us probably at 7am singing to Chinese New Year songs, then walked out with Eugene’s keys and tapau-ed porridge from behind my house and paid only 50sen to the auntie manning the stall who accepted the meagre amount WTF, then somehow got himself to Taipan (which was still a mystery at the time of writing, he probably walked ‘cause apparently he wanted to go back home but sesat jalan until Taipan), then an Indian couple saw him following them and sent him to the police station.
A lot of my friends asked me the same thing if he wanted something but my parents wouldn’t give him so he set off by himself again in that grand epic quest to procure it (which happened last 2 years when my parents refused to buy a Chicken Little VCD at Parade). Well yes, but it was mostly me ‘cause he wanted me to burn some patriotic songs for him but I don’t have CD-R’s so he has been bugging me for nearly 3 weeks now to burn for him. :/ (Which we now know was not the main reason why he disappeared.)
The whole morning drama ended at 11am, which was a little faster than the previous incident wtf. To Wai Hong, Heng, Shawn, Yen, Jess, and Sarah – thanks again for helping me find the little rascal.. that’s when you realise the importance of a close group of friends and how awesome they are. Jon too, whom I think helped us searched for him even though he wasn’t with us. Also thanks to Esther who wanted to come all the way from Old Klang Road to help me find him (actually ter-SMS her ‘cause I SMSed those whom I think were in Subang only lol). RB, Joe, Andy, Ding – thanks for the concern even though you guys missed the lunacy of the morning.
I fervently hope there won’t be a part 3 of this entry in the future.
---
We haven’t been meeting up together lately (in a few months I reckon), so Shawn held a mini-gathering yesterday night at his house with the attendees being me, Heng, Jess, WH, Andy, Ding, Fangki, and Jon (who dropped by the latest). I’ll do this pictorially – going out soon to have dinner and catching Iron Man in the cinemas.

At Shawn’s kitchen eating soba! A little salty but it was nice – I think ingredients and sauce were provided by WH.

Haha I swear we were on some Japanese Month streak or something, we’ve been eating Japanese food a lot lately.

Resting for a bit after eating.

1-2-som between the two worst drinkers among us to see who would drink the ‘submarine’ – a concoction of beer and whisky (if I’m not mistaken).

Wai Hong’s face before drinking.
Wai Hong gulping down the cup in one go with Shawn prancing on the sidelines.

A very elegant bottle of.. Japanese rice/sweet potato wine.

Kampai!! Haha and no Jess’ cup didn’t contain the Japanese alcoholic drink, but Ribena. And she did try to drink a little (yay!) but it tasted so awful – similar to heavy vodka or something I reckon – that she made this funny wincing face and drank copious amount of her Ribena hahahaha. (And no I didn’t finish mine either ‘cause it was that nasty.)

Drinking vodka + ribena while watching the television.

Jess and Sarah.
And then we watched half of Saw 2, which I thought was going to be a mindless gory killing show, but it was pretty interesting actually with that little twist at the end. Show ended at about 1am.

Ding, Sarah, WH, Jon.

Andy (blocked), me, Ding, Sarah with the eternal peace sign.

Sarah and Heng.

And then we were so bored we participated in the SMS chat HAHAHAHAHA on 8TV like other people with too much credit. We used Ding’s phone to register and SMS ourselves ‘cause he boasted that he had RM60 worth of credit still unused.
And so we waited for like 10-15 minutes for our message to finally go through (we nearly missed the first one – it listed our name as ‘Anonymous’).

James Blunt looked like some pornographic film wtf with him shirtless on the bed. And look at all the funny messages on the screen.

Shawn registered himself as ‘andyg’ and his message was “Hi, speed racer mou.” damn lame la HAHAHHAHA.

And the hilarious message of the night god it cracked us up so much at nearly 2am.
We lepak-ed some more, left at around 3.20am and I finally reached home at 4am, before that crazy morning event occurred today.
