Heroes’ hope

I’ve always wondered why in almost every generic RPG game I’ve encountered, or TV series, or movie, hope seems to be the central issue amidst a dying world or a villain’s vile plot to conquer the world. Hope breathes life into the sliver of things we do, and from hope we derive our strength and courage.

Oh it’s corny alright, but somehow this glimmer of light is what’s left of a decadent, degrading world, where I slowly but surely believe in a cynical way that our world will end so much sooner than we think it would – but that’s left for the future generation to decide doesn’t it? Haven’t we been shielded enough by blatant ignorance and naivety where atrocious massacres and genocides that have actually occurred become rare knowledge?

There’s something about Heroes’ season finale that’s incredibly climatic and magical at the same time, something so mystifying and gratifying in its large, expandable universe… something that you have to watch on your own to understand what I mean.

I’ve never felt this way with a TV series before – not that I watch that many a series – but I think I’ve found a hero in Heroes. BRING IT ON SEASON TWO!!
