13 Jan 2005 2:21 pmLast two nights, I got back from my Physics tuition and just happened to look up at the sky and I was struck.
Stars - there must be twenty of them - decorating the black night. It was a beautiful sight - something you don’t often see in our light-polluted world. The last time I saw an entire galaxy of stars was at Kuala Selangor when I was younger - tons and tons of them, and there’s even this spiral galaxy thingy. It was like one of them movies - but in real life.
It just made me realize that we’re like a single molecule of sand in a vast beach. That night was a humbling moment.
I like Biology - because I find it an easy subject to learn, as well as an interesting one (no calculations needed - just pure hard facts). Today, Miss Then was relating something about the heart - and she droned on with the processes of the human heart, and related stories about heart diseases, etc and other horror stories in the hospital that I had to wince (really). Stories about intravenous drip, etc, reminded me of my previous operation - and needles and stuff scared the shit out of me.
Which is why I can’t be a doc. I’ve only been in the hospital twice; once when I was a baby - my mum told me that my face turned blue and they had to call the ambulance and basically it gave my parents quite a fright.
It just reminded me of our mortality. We were quite chatty at that time, and Miss Then noticed Afif was rather quiet - and he did look rather sad, almost as if he wanted to cry. The lesson about the heart reminded him about his dad who passed away last year - due to a heart attack.
The whole class fell silent immediately, I dare not look at him. Ms Then continued quietly saying that he should take it positively, and do things to keep him occupied. She said that her own mother passed away when she was in Form 5, and she knew how Afif felt.
And so. There’s our Biology lesson - a reminder of our mortality.
Today there’s been a blackout in the entire Subang Jaya area, as well as other cities in the Klang Valley.
It was bloody hot when I reached home, and I practically can’t do anything without electricity (which tells us how important it is, huh?). So I read the newspapers, got all hot and bothered, and SMSed Heng Li..we decided that we’ll hit the library (Hipermedia) and get out from our stuffy homes.
It turns out that the library suffered from the blackout as well, but strangely, Taipan is well and abuzz. We bought ourselves a drink, sat down at McD and did our homework there. We thought that the air-con was a tad bit cold. =/
So yeah, another entire day wasted - but I suppose it’s a good thing..I spent it on finishing off my homework instead.
