I have been blinded.

Readers,

It has been the longest two days of my life. I slept for more than 20 hours cumulatively, and I’m already tired of sleeping. Thursday, the day after meeting Danus, and today. So long that, I can’t believe they’re finally over.

Yesterday after I woke up I felt the same usual pain on my left eye that signifies conjunctivities. Oh boy, I thought, fuck you contacts. It was brand new (just opened up and worn it for the second time on Wednesday) so I doubt it was anything to do with old contacts and hygiene.

Late in the afternoon, I agreed to Heng for a yamcha with Andy, thinking the conjunctivitis will heal itself after some sleep so I took several naps. I woke up feeling.. none the better.

It was later after my dinner when I dabbed some ointment and eye cream that I felt terrible. My left eye pounded so bad at any bright light I had to close it. Went to the doc at USJ 4 and some old guy that probably posed as a doctor with a white moustache took a look at my eye for two seconds and pronounced it as “a bad case of conjunctivitis”. Like I don’t know that, doc.

I reached home at 8pm with a cactus in my left eye that I took a sleep-inducing itchy pill, a painkiller, eye ointments, and slept.

Woke up at 1am. Hmm, slightly better. What to do now? Yeah, go online lah. Chatted with the usual before having to go off early 30 minutes later as the pain got worse.

I tried to sleep, but I couldn’t. Imagine trying to sleep with a piranha gnawing your fucking eye off. Imagine your left eye getting so fucking watery, with minor discharge, and blowing your nose off (apparently the eye’s connected to the nose, so everything I have conjunctivitis I have flu too. heh) while going to the toilet repeatedly to wash up and grab tissue papers.

At 2am, I couldn’t stand the pain. Somehow my mum was conveniently awake so I ran to her room and told her about my disturbing eye. Got me some Chinese delicacy thingy (since it was the Chinese Winter Solstice thingy on Thursday), some pills, and I tried to knock myself off.

Woke up again at 5am with the fucking pain ever growing. I felt so fucking helpless, my dad this time was awake, groaned to him I needed to see Dr. Ooi in the morning (the best doctor ever, in SS15) and he told me mum will see me to it.

I slept.

Mum took me to Klinik Ooi at 8am and all this while I must have used up at least a roll of tissue dabbing on my left eye. I can’t see the fucking light; opening my left eyelid a little took effort and everytime I do so the light, like trillions of needles, poked through my eyeball, with searing screaming pain.

I closed my eyes while in the car and in the clinic. The bad thing of having the best doctor ever in town, you have to wait for some time. So I waited for 2-3 hours (can’t even look at the clock, so rough estimate) with my eyes closed (time seems to pass quickly that way), until my name was called. Had to wait for a further 20-30 minutes before she came attending to me.

Dr. Ooi was adept. Very good. She seemed..professional, that even though she might pretend to know about your medical condition, she has that air that makes you feel safe in her arms. Mumbled something about “photophobia” and said she’s referring me to the best eye specialist in town, a Dr. Chin at Sunway Medical Hospital, since she didn’t have any proper equipments and Dr. Chin, apparently, will give me an ointment that makes me feel better straightaway. “I know how suffering it must be for you.” Heh.

After braving a traffic jam and finding a parking lot with my mum, we went up to 6th floor to meet Dr. Chin. I had to wait for 4 more patients (mostly young kids) before she could meet me.

The first thing that struck me was how she resembled Professor Trelawney of Harry Potter in the movies. Thin, fragile-looking, with almost the exact same spectacles except much more saner. After dripping two drops of ointments into my eye, I could finally open my left eye (“It’s anaesthetic.”)

She put me through an eye equipment you see at the normal optician stores, but at the same time, with blue light, yellow light, and god knows what other colours under the sky.

She looked up after the inspection and proclaimed:

“Your cornea is eroded”.

Wow, like. That actually is as bad as it sounds. She proceeded to explain that it’s purely due to contact lens wear (“your eye may not be suitable, or the lens itself is unsuitable, etc”) and not sitting in front of the computer like my mum tried to divert the blame from.

Soooo yeah. Went back home, could barely eat my lunch seeing as I CAN’T SEE A FUCKING THING so drank Milo blindly (literally) and slept.

Woke up at about 5pm, felt about the same, bathed. I bathed with my eyes closed completely, so yeah, like a real blind man, felt my way about the toilet for shampoo and whatnot. Heh. Messaged some friends too ranting how shitty feeling blind with nothing to do felt like. Mum suggested I read newspaper while they go out somewhere for a while, so I did.

Nowww..I’m posting this up purely for amusement purposes. I turned to page 4 of TheStar, and there was this article on Juwita Suwito, out of the two on the page. Yeah sure, Christianity and stuff, so I gingerly replaced the tissue I’ve been holding up against my eye, and tried to see if I could open my eye without feeling complete pain because 5 minutes ago it still hurt.

TADA NO MORE PAIN!! (like some corny shampoo advertisement)

Ya know, THIS is what I call a proper testimony if I were a Christian enthusiast, instead of that horrible corny shorts miracle thing.

So yeah, that page incidentally has another article on Christianity (drug abuser became a pastor), soooo… believe what you will. :)

Anyhow, I gingerly tested my new-found vision by reading the entire newspaper voraciously. Then watched a DVD of 40 Year Old Virgin.

Right now, I feel so much better (thank god), and I seriously thought I had to spend Christmas blind. Can’t go to Jess’ party (fuck no!!!), except sitting at home closing my eyes like an exact blind person.

I’ve limped like I lost my leg, I’ve suffered through temporary blindness and the greatest pain one could ever experience on one eye.

Gonna sing Joy to the World this Christmas. I’m a bit weak now, but, I’m feeling joyful again I could hang out at 1U tomorrow. To do things a blind person could not.

I truly feel for the blind out there.

3 Thoughts to I have been blinded.

Hehe, yeah, it really, utterly sucks to be blind. You can’t watch TV, you can’t surf the Net… WHAT CAN YOU DO!??

I almost contemplated buying audio books to pass the time. Thank god my eye..miraculously healed in time >_> (although not fully)
