The new year came. I wanted to write about my recollections of what happened last year, but instead I was too caught up with writing my travelogue that nearly a month has since passed – and the things I wanted to talk about have now been buried beneath layers of newer memories.
Instead of summarising the entire year in an even lengthier post, I can tell you how 2007 was like for me: it was a year of experimentation, where I tried several major things that are commonly affiliated with the western world – something of a sexual nature, weeds, smoking, backpacking.
Some of which I’m not entirely proud of, and I’m not particularly concerned if this somehow shattered whatever image you had on me – my close friends are all that really matters.

In a pictorial nutshell, here’s what I did in the past month:
Friday, 4th January 2008
Ding organised a steamboat buffet at that Sunway buffet restaurant just two days after we returned from Langkawi. Not a whole lot of people turned up, but they’re made up of:

Two couples side by side wtf rare sight.

And the four still eligible bachelors.

Group photo.
It was just alright lah (and it was raining), I don’t really fancy steamboat buffets after eating one too many at Shabu Shabu (NO SHAWN, NO MORE SHABU SHABU). After our dinner, we all went for a mamak session with the others.

Ding wanted to compare these two’s eyes.
On Saturday the 12th, while Fangki and I were at Jon’s house playing DotA, Ding dropped by to join.. but not without a birthday cake.

Curi from Jon’s blog. With a birthday cake that says “HAPPY BIRTHDAY FANGKI DRUNKIE” swt.
On Sunday the 13th, I was at Siew Kiat’s birthday party at Court 3, when days before Jeremy invited Jon and me on MSN:
harlowz~~~ you are cordially invited to join us for siew’s bday pt at crt 3 this sunday evening … however due to lacking of funds(and rich ppl sponsors), participation would require a fee of RM20 .. >_> hehe

Quite a lot of people turned up, like Kean Gin and Ghavin.

Mostly my seniors.. I think I was like a sesat member >_>

Dude in the orange shirt is Gary, Jeremy’s housemate who has “joined the gang”, in Poh Yuen’s words.

Funky BBQ fire.

Poh Yuen and Eu Jin.

Dek, me, Poh Yuen.

May Yee, Aznah, PY.

Some sort of group photo.

Muhammad was around too.

Turns out that we were really celebrating the birthdays of Siew, Muhammad, and Eu Jin.

The non-Muslim birthday boys were forced to drink 20 shots of some.. let’s just say nasty concoction specially brewed by Ramesh (who wasn’t there when I left early).

And another.
The following day on the 14th was my orientation at RMIT – which marked the first day of my transfer from Curtin to RMIT at Metropolitan College. I was a little unsure of exactly how I was going to fit in what with me taking two subjects from my 1st year 1st sem, and another two subjects from 1st year 2nd sem. But ahh I found out that in some of the classes, my classmates were Siew Hui and Siew Chuen (yes they were both in the same class, don’t ask me how that worked out), and Kean Gin! And in a Marketing Principles class, I simply nestled in between Hor Sheng and Khai Shin (the former is a talkative overachiever but let’s talk about him in another post someday), two fellow Curtin transferees as well.
On Wednesday the 16th, Siew Hui picked me up to go to college at about 3.30pm for some makan-makan event organised as some sort of an orientation. The usual games and food follows (I’ll also avoid talking about that pretentious girl with a pretentious English name who pretend to be a Metro student because she was really from Taylor’s and was at my college to accompany her friend, and I was unfortunate enough to be partnered with her), and the best thing was saved for the last:

J.Co donuts!!! I chose that brown donut that looked less creamy, but it didn’t make any difference anyway because I spent most of the night (and the next day) in the toilet.
It was worth the bite though.
On Friday the 18th, Jon & Ee Leen, Jon’s church friend, Ding, Andy, and me went to watch Cloverfield at GSC Summit – a very unconventional monster movie, from the point of view of a few survivors (literally), and I loved it, even though it gave me motion sickness (probably because we sat about 5 rows from the front screen) and I felt like puking at the end of it. Andy didn’t like it though while Jon’s church friend slept halfway through it LOL.
Later on that night, Jon & Ee Leen, Andy, Fang Chyuan, Ding, Wai Hong and me (basically the same people who went for the steamboat buffet under similar circumstances – rain, and we were late while Andy, Jon and Ee Leen were early – except that it’s without Mei Yee) went to Asia Cafe for dinner.. and then went to Pizza Uno where we had earlier booked a table so we can drink 3 jugs of Sangria, which Fangki belan-ed. Heng joined us.
And on Tuesday the 22nd, I met up with Chris (who came back not too long ago) together with Yen at Carl’s Jr, Sunway Pyramid’s new wing!

Some cheesie fries.. without the cheese, it was the best fries everrrr (100 times better than McD’s). Oh and the burgers were good (also probably because I was starving waiting for Chris who was caught in a traffic jam >.>), but they were way too pricey – about RM20 for a small burger set heh.

Me and Chris.

Chris and Yen.
The next day on the 23rd was a public holiday for Thaipusam, and Jon (along with Ee Leen) fetched Ding and me to S&M Shopping Arcade, KL (next to Kotaraya) to purchase our own DS Lites
. My old white phat DS was somewhat dysfunctional as it couldn’t play some newer games (all it would’ve really taken was a newer cart >.>) and were already badly ridden with scratches and chips and whatnot.

Again stolen from Jon’s blog. From left to right, Jon’s, mine, Ding’s – snapped during our DS party on Friday the 25th.

On 26th the Saturday, Ding and I went to Jon’s house from 6pm to Ican’trememberwhen playing DS and DotA – and we had our dinner only at 9pm at that Ampang Yong Tao Foo restaurant in Taipan.
30th the Wednesday, Kai Tzin organised a dinner at Pizza Uno – Ding, Andy, me, Jon & Ee Leen joined. Heng served us haha. Later on Kai Tzin, Ding, and I went to Summit to catch a movie.. and the only somewhat decent movie that was on was The Game Plan so we watched it till 11.30pm. A typical heart-warming Disney happily-ever-after movie, not really my type hehe.
Yesterday on the 31st, right after my Chinese class, I picked up Ding and we went to Jon’s house on the pretext of a DS party but we ended up playing.. DotA. -__- At close to 3am Jon cooked us Maggi Mee (Perencah Kari) with eggs yum, had some interesting chats close to 4am before we finally went back.
Other noteworthy things that occurred but whose dates I forgot when it happened were:
- As an Indian girl walked out from the computer lab in my college and I passed by her, we both suddenly stared at one another and we traded smiles. We were both wrinkling our eyebrows by then, and I told her, “You look familiar” and she reciprocated, “You too”. At that moment I felt that there was so much connection between us – but I failed to recall why she was so familiar to me. She asked if I would happen to live in KL and I said no, and as she was hurrying off to class presumably, and I back home, we left it at that – and I never really crossed paths with her in college since.
- I was a little late for my Chinese class, and as I entered the apartment grounds, I told the guard as usual, “Ada tuition bang” and I rattled off the apartment number. But instead of waving me off as the other guards usually did, he stopped to ask me what tuition it is and I said, “Kelas Bahasa Cina”. He looked awfully surprised as if I had just told him I was meeting the Prime Minister to discuss the Lingam tape, and being indirectly sarcastic he said, “Kenapa awak tak tahu Bahasa Cina? Awak kan Cina?”
“Bahasa Melayu awak bagus ya,” he added. “Yala, sebab tu lah saya kena belajar Bahasa Cina sekarang bang.”
I can’t believe a mere guard indirectly told me off for not knowing Chinese. >___>
