In the past 24 hours

In the past 24 hours, I:

– browsed through my old pictures, and felt a little sad when I saw a pic of my previous maid.. and a twang of pity surfaced when I realised that she must have an increasingly difficult life back in Indonesia. It was her decision to go back – but she was caring and worked really hard, even though she didn’t have the best attitude or temper at times that rubbed off my parents the wrong way

– spent my time mostly on the computer working on a personal project and helped Jess with her HIV/AIDS awareness banner on Photoshop

– ate two Ramli burgers at about 20 minutes ago while blog-hopping and felt completely full now

– felt guilty about my paternal grandmother, whom I will be seeing this coming Chinese New Year

– realised that my lecturers don’t really start on Monday (later), but on Tuesday, after Rebecca asked me on MSN to confirm with me. Hurray another extra day of holiday to enjoy longer!

– had fun dissecting, gossiping, and contemplating a junior’s blog with Jess on MSN now hahahaha

– am ecstatic to discover the existence of Microsoft SkyDrive, a virtual storage space (imagine it as a virtual hard drive if you will) of 25GB free space (as of now) with a maximum permitted filesize of 50mb per file! I’ve been looking for this all over to backup my very important photos, and having my photos stored on an external hard drive alone isn’t exactly completely safe.. The best part about SkyDrive is, though, that if you use Internet Explorer (and not Firefox as I found out a little later), you can just drag and drop your files to the browser and have them uploaded there and then (with a pretty simple and neat interface too), AND, you can change permission settings or even add password to certain folders so that your friends on Windows Live Messenger can access too! I thought this was a pretty brilliant move by Microsoft.. and I certainly wish that they’d add more disk space in the future as my Pictures folder is 39.7GB large at the time of writing.

– spent nearly 2 hours helping Kai transfer a wide array of files ranging from pictures to videos to an application to his external hard drive.. he came to my house at nearly midnight.

– had browsed through Couchsurfing.com’s profiles at around this ungodly hour nearly 24 hours ago, and I was quite amazed to see this.. human tapestry of varying professions, interests, and personalities all gathered under a single passion for travelling. There was a Turk who incidentally was also an AIESEC member in his home country and a photography enthusiast, who is currently working in HELP Uni in Malaysia, a Japanese who was born in America (and hence has perfect English, and has a very good command of Japanese too) who is currently residing in New Zealand as a chef, a young Brazilian man currently living in New Zealand who picked up guitar during his teenage days and is currently teaching guitar to kids for a living.. the list goes on. These are colourful and interesting characters living The Life – living and working in a foreign country, something I dream to do some day.

– am a little nervous and excited about my upcoming Macau and Hong Kong trip with my family this coming Friday. This will be the first time that my entire family would be going overseas (yeah, not even Singapore or Thailand, sad I know), so my two younger siblings would experience flight on an aircraft for the first time. I’d be in their shoes too had I not ventured out via backpacking on my own.. my first flying experience was actually sitting AirAsia (hence why I’m now a huge fan/follower of the airline company, and Datuk Tony Fernandes) from the LCCT to Langkawi 3 years ago.

– woke up at 12pm. Been waking up at 12pm for the past two or three days, this has to stop before my class begins..

– read a very inspiring article on The Star’s Fit 4 Life (page 2) about a professional woman who has HIV and is happily married with her husband with two kids. She had the kids after contracting HIV, lives an almost normal life, and as the article puts it, “only has life’s little details to worry about”.
