28 Nov 2007 7:45 pmMy lactose intolerance took up a notch when I kept getting consistent diarrhoea from consuming buns purchased from the fairly new Patisfrance in Taipan. Either their buns are expired – which I doubt, because Ding bought some from them and was completely fine – or it’s just my intestines reacting severely against Patisfrance’s buns.
A simple search on Google revealed that yes, depending on the bread and buns you purchased, they’re likely to contain traces of lactose. Another quick scan through the ingredients used in the loaf of Hi5 bread in my kitchen revealed that it contains skimmed milk powder. I feel like specifically mentioning this because when I told my friends this, their responses were:

huh no la

but i believe msia punya bread takda
:P There you go.
Another interesting fact that I came across is that 70% of the world’s population is lactose intolerant, where unfortunately I lie inside the majority.
Unfortunately my other alternative solution (other than avoiding food containing dairy products like the plague) is Lactaid, which basically is lactase enzymes in a pill. They’re impossible to find anywhere in pharmacies here.. so anyone in the US or UK could ship them here for me?
I’ll bear the full costs, ‘course.
