Lactose discrimination

Okay, so it was a probably a bad idea to ingest even four spoonfuls of Baskin Robbin’s chocolate chip with cookies and cream. I don’t feel like elaborating what happened the next day (today). :(

It’s little comfort to know that despite the millions of people suffering the same ‘condition’ as me, I was told that even in the US it’s hard to find nifty little pills (a particular brand called Lactaid) to take in before consuming lactose, whatmore in Malaysia.

I did actually take a trip to Guardian pharmacy in 1 Utama, only to be told by the nutritionist that such a miracle pill for us lactose intolerants does not exist in Malaysia, even though they have tons of similar pills to break down carbohydrates and protein, but not lactose.

wtf lactose discrimination!

I mean seriously, I am pissed off. I have read enough about lactose intolerance and lactose intolerance isn’t even rare. According to a reputable source, lactose intolerance is in fact normal in individuals, and it is only that certain people have undergone mutation in their chromosome that allows them to continue ingesting milk without troubles.

Long story short: if you’re not lactose intolerant, one of your chromosomes has mutated.

MUTANTS!

And if pharmacies in Malaysia fail me, I suppose I have no other choice but to import these things. That is, if we can even import health-related products that may be viewed suspiciously as drugs.

I think, just like all other different health-related stuffs in Malaysia, there’s apathy and a lack of awareness of conditions - even though it’s not exactly life-threatening - like lactose intolerance.

I am adamant in my quest to enjoy dairy-related products (ice-creams, chocolates, milk, etc), because if there’s a will, there has to be a fucking way.

Sigh these are one of the tiny few times I wish I were in the US. Can get lactase enzyme pills like Lactaid easily. :(

Well as one grows older, the number of the enzyme lactase will decline.. that is if you are normal. :p

I would enjoy as much as ice-cream as I can if I were you. ;P
