Little Harajuku and Pavillion

Ever since college started I have increasingly less stories to tell, most probably because of my homework that keeps restocking itself weekly and made it seem never-ending, and because other than lecturers who treat us like high school kids or worse and the resident annoying classmate or two, there really is nothing else to describe.

On Monday after class, Ding dropped by my house around 3.30pm where we played Professor Layton and the Curious Village on our DSes till nearly 7pm. Very interesting mystery + puzzle game.

Tuesday after class, went to catch Jumper at the cinema with Ding, Andy, and Kai Tzin for a 3.10pm movie – it was a potentially good movie with an interesting concept but ruined by horrible acting and poor direction. After that the three of us minus Kai Tzin went to Taipan as I wanted to snap photos of bakeries for my marketing project, and then we went to OldTaste for a bite.

And at night, although I was pretty much tired like hell I followed Ding (driver), Kai Tzin, and Andy to Tanjung where we also met up with Jess, Heng, and Xin Min. Oh btw Heng has a backup plan should he get poor grades for his STPM – he wants to be an air steward HAHAHAHA.

Ah but yesterday, what was supposed to be a long Wednesday with classes starting from 8am and ending at 3pm non-stop turned out to be alright after all. I dragged myself to the Macroeconomics I class, and after a while I started to doze off while sitting upright. My new friend David of Alor Setar, who was sitting beside me, nudged me to stay awake and I mumbled “Just let me sleep lah”.

Few minutes later after exerting an effort equivalent to pushing three bulldozers with my bare hands, I dozed off again and that was when another nudge woke me up rudely, and the first few words I heard loud and clear ringing out as I sleepily opened my eyes was that of my lecturer’s, “DON’T YOU DARE TO SLEEP IN MY CLASS!”. Huhu so there you go my first public reprimand since I started college one and a half year ago (other than a spat with another lecturer who didn’t teach me), and admittedly I was stupid enough to sleep right in the middle of the lecture hall within her line of vision – ironically I chose that particular seat because I wanted to sit with my few other college friends but spent my time sleeping instead.

Next time I shall sit at the back lah whenever I feel like sleeping wtf – be a solo ranger.

Anyhow after finally succeeding to keep myself awake by trading whispered criticisms of her confusing teaching skills with David, my mind slowly wandered to some places else. My thoughts trod from one ground to another until it reached upon what I recalled from Suet’s recent entry, and I had to wonder why should I be the resident good student who attends every class and get good grades? Why am I pressuring myself with workload when I should get off and have good fun every once in a while?

And then I recalled a television documentary I watched at Johnny the Russian’s apartment about a dog who rescued this young man from drowning in the sea of icy-cold water. At the end of the ordeal after his near-death situation, he said that he would be living each day as if it would be his last, since accidents hit upon us anytime and you wouldn’t know when one would strike.

And I thought, with the continuous robotic drone of the lecturer’s voice still playing like an endless recorder, I thought hell yeah that was bloody true. Grades also seem to amount to nothing when I realised that my local course doesn’t offer an Honours degree, but I’d have to spend a year in Australia to pursue that – seriously who cares lah whether I’m an Honours student or not as long as I can produce quality work for you yeah?

I was so inspired by these schools of thought that I decided to….......... ponteng class!!!

There and then, after contemplating the consequences of my actions, I fished out my phone from my pocket and SMSed to Kai Tzin if his plan to go to KL was still on, as was discussed between the three very free people this week – Andy, Kai, and Ding. And when my lecture finally ended at 10.30am, I drove straight to Caltex near Pyramid to wait for Kai Tzin and Ding’s cars (they both drove separately, so you have 3 people in 3 separate cars ahahaha why we like to waste petrol so much), and as I was waiting for them to arrive, I read up a bit on my humongous Financial Accounting book because I was still feeling a little guilty to skip the tutorial class.

Few reasons why I wanted to go to KL as well:

  • I thought that if I didn’t go to KL that day with my friends, and if something ever happened to me on that day itself (choyyyy touch wood), I don’t want my dying thoughts to be “OMG I should’ve went to KL” wtf.
  • I wanted to do some shopping since I didn’t even buy any Chinese New Year clothes because I was too lazy to go out and shop, and I was desperately in need of an extra trousers.
  • It’s always nice to go to Sungei Wang since I don’t think I’ve been there for a year or so now.

So at around 11.20am, Kai Tzin and Ding arrived in their respective cars and we went to the compound of a nearby mosque and parked our cars there O_O. Kai Tzin then drove us all the way to Sungei Wang, where we ate our lunch at Mama’s and then initiate our shopping task.

Sungei Wang has never ceased to amaze me even after a year or two of not being there, it’s still like a Little Harajuku with all the peculiar attire these young people are wearing and flaunting: long socks and thick black boots, weird frilly dresses and tresses, and even the guys themselves wear something so strangely different that we can all safely classify them – be it boys or girls – into a single all-encompassing word: lala.

No offence but I’ve also never seen so many lalas and pondans in a particular area before in my life.

I didn’t buy anything from Sungei Wang even though they have ‘normal’ shops like Baleno or FOS, although Ding did buy two shirts from two rather.. shall we say shops that sell rather unconventional attires coughlalacough ahahaha jk! I was also feeling quite inadequate among the parades of atypical fashion as I was clad only in a yellow T-shirt that has my college’s name on it, and a three-quarter pants (I didn’t actually plan on going to KL which was why I was dressed so casually).

And then we decided to walk to Pavillion, which increased my inadequateness twofold as the shops are of the upper class stature. I did spot a Dockers shop though, went in, and browsed through their selection of khakis. I fell in love with Dockers Mobile, a line of their slacks where it has simple designs with no extra frills added, the incredibly soft and comfortable material that they used (supposedly Teflon-coated to repel water) that made me feel as if I was plunging the lower half of my body into a sack of feathers, and their incredibly safe pockets (two hidden zipped pockets) tailored for travellers and businessmen with their array of electronics!! (No I’m not being paid by Dockers to write this.)

I’m a pocket guy, in that I don’t bring bags along with me whenever I go out so I usually stuff all my essential going-out items (handphone, wallet, keys, camera) into whichever pockets available – I don’t use bags or pouches or wallets to safeguard my stuffs. However, this usually has a repercussion – my things fall out easily from my pockets, especially them shallow ones (I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve already had my SE P990 slip off from my pocket and fall to the ground, but the sturdy thing is still functioning like normal as of writing), and there’s the tiny chance I’d lose my things.

Sadly they didn’t have that many choices of colours for the Mobile, so in the end after consulting Kai Tzin, I purchased a neat grey Dockers Mobile for RM179. Good investment lah methinks, especially since I have only two functional long pants at home – a pair of good-looking jeans and a pair of dark navy blue trousers, both purchased (at separate times) from Wh of 1U – and the other two trousers I used to wear had either torn pockets or torn legs wtf.

Ah sorry overly long description.

When I finished paying at the counter, that was when Andy arrived, already sweating through his orange shirt. We walked around for a bit and settled for Carl’s Jr for Andy to eat, and as it was already 4pm by then and Kai Tzin had to go to work, we went back to Sunway.

Walked around a bit in Pyramid and then I decided to leave early at 6pm, seeing that I have homework to do at home. >_>

suet: what u mean! actually to me grades don’t matter anymore hahaha since i’ve always been asked to studystudystudy for scholarships, but since i couldn’t get one, grades no longer have any real meaning for me. but deep inside i still want to get good grades la by doing my best, so if i don’t really get good grades, i won’t be very disappointed since i’ve already tried my best.

oh nola i didn’t mean that way.. not the dockers mobile. but since having FUN is my top priority in life (going to KL with friends, not buying dockers lol) and not studying, i wouldn’t die in peace knowing that on that particular hectic Wednesday when there were two choices between studying and going to KL, in the end I chose to study wtf.

kaitzin: ya i loveeee the material but too bad don’t have brown :( come to think of it i should’ve went to other dockers branches instead wtf.

XD yeah i think it’s not ‘your style’ in daniel’s words hahaha.
