Melburnian Protests

Random things I missed out talking about since I touched down a week ago:

This is what happened last Wednesday night during our game of Monopoly with Ghavin’s flatmates (be forewarned that colourful language is utilised):

This video is in HD – if your connection is slow, you might wanna switch it to non-HD by opening the video in Youtube and selecting it from there.

The LG KS360 phone I got from subscribing to my postpaid line here – probably made a huge mistake with that, but I guess we all draw lessons from our mistakes.

And things like these reminded me of why I love Melbourne when we spotted this on Friday:

A peaceful protest march along Swanston St if I recall correctly, with the policemen even escorting them – despite the fact that trams and cars alike are stalled by this.

A camera crew.

Another look.

People started streaming in.

Voice-over mostly by Ethan, who’s probably the only person in Melbourne that I’m close to right now.

When we walked past the same street again a while later, we saw this by a KFC outlet:

I just thought this was freakin’ hilarious – I was thoroughly amused.

Saturday night saw my first attempt at boiling my beef & honey sausages – it failed the first time because I didn’t know you have to use the clicker or whatever it is to create fire from the gas, and then I left the fire on for too short a period and it ended up raw. <_< My housemate, Jessica Lim, eventually just placed the sausages in the grill machine belonging to our other housemate Cheng, who may move out real soon and take the machine with her. =/ It was really convenient.

But these three alternative hotdogs were prolly a little too much – I forced myself to finish ‘em and could barely move after that.

I had a pretty satisfying lazy Sunday – I set the alarm for about 9am to do my laundry, but having slept at about 4am the night before I decided to sleep for a bit more (with the cold, it succeeded in making me feel lazier) and only woke up at 11+.

Sunday was interesting in a way because it marked the first time I did my laundry – the manual way at that, by washing my clothes while I was showering with the wash basin I bought the previous day. I had another first failed attempt at boiling my sausages (again, I didn’t boil it long enough), but in the end it tasted great with my toasted bread, which was what I had for dinner (and it was surprisingly filling enough).

Spent my afternoon chatting with Matt and evening/night watching Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. I was skeptical when my bro recommended them to me, but they turn out to be beautiful, poignant masterpieces of the romantic kind – and I rarely ever watch romantic dramas. There’s something fanciful in the flight of these flicks that reminds me so much of my own life – that whimsical love and the concept of relationships that are utterly ambiguous and ever unclear – and I loved them.

I may be projecting my own ideals and experiences through these movies, which may be why I liked them in the first place. The uniqueness of these films in that the dialogues are incredibly central, natural, and quirky, as well as how the main characters were acted by incredibly good actors – Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy – are the stellar points of these movies.

Absolutely not to be missed. Rating: 10/10

I mock, but only because I’ve been there and done that. In 7th or 8th grade me and a friend decided to make fried zucchini for some project we had to do, and we accidentally started a grease fire and nearly burned down part of his kitchen. =p

Just keep practicing and you’ll get the hang of it. _
