12 Jul 2006 2:38 pmAfter getting bored with college, I decided to skip it considering the fact that my classes end at 6pm today.
So sick of assignments and all already lah.
SICK I TELL YOU.
SICK.
Okay not really. Had to skip today’s classes reluctantly, because I really wanted to go to the Photoshop WorldAsia2006 seminar thingy in Hilton KL, to upgrade myself (human capital, to borrow a term from Economics). I received the invitation weeks ago, but it was only last week that Jon vehemently encouraged me to attend, so I pulled along Andy who surprisingly wanted to go as well.
Woke up at 6am, prepared everything etc, Jon drove the both of us to his cousin’s apartment in Bukit Jalil. The cousin, Hao Wei, looked as if he was of mixed parentage because of his fair skin and has a pretty boy kinda look.. no offence intended since it’s an intended compliment. >.>
Hao Wei drove us in his Serena from Bukit Jalil (Jon parked inside his apartment and left his car there) and went straight to Hilton KL.. brought back memories from before when there a Celcom Youth Ambassador Graduation Night event was held there as well, at the exact same halls no less.

Their tagline was What’s bigger than the industrial revolution? which I suspect the answer was this: Creative revolution. As you can (or cannot) see from the schedule, it’s a 9am-5pm thing.

The registration counter.. you hafta register online and bring along your printed barcode or sommat. Although you don’t necessarily have to do that as there was a separate counter for those who didn’t print their barcodes.

Promotion on their partners’ tablets which would be useful if I can actually draw a stickman properly.

Tons of people were crowding the outside hall before we were allowed to enter.
There were two speakers, one a Ms Marianne, Singaporean who speaks English with some accent, while Mr Ton is from the States (I think). The latter did not speak - he mumbled and drawled on his words that eventually put off the lot of us and made some of us doze off.
During our lunch break, we went to KL Sentral (after looking for Hao Wei’s friend Dinesh), went restaurant-hopping after feeling disturbed by the long queues, and eventually settled on McDonald’s which was the first restaurant we stopped by. =___= Ate Grilled Chicken Foldover for about RM10.

Guess who we saw!! (or rather, who I spotted during our tea break before lunch) It was Jason aka Smashpop, a rather well-known blogger who works for Xfresh as a graphics designer. This picture shows both Smashpop and Dinesh, who apparently knew each other, and this made the world seem rather small. o_o

Dinesh on the right, and the one beside him is Hao Wei. We had to wear this Attendee sticker which doesn’t to serve any other purpose at all apart from inconveniencing you.
Long story short, in that hours of talking and demonstration and whatnot I only found 15% of it interesting, and that small percentage is the one I’ll probably apply to my rather noobish Photoshopping skills from now on. As you can see, I’ve also started watermarking my pictures as well in the most effective manner. ;D
The final speaker, John Ishii, was the guest speaker for the final 30 minutes of the entire session. God knows what he was trying to say.
Can’t say that the entire thing had been a waste of time since I did acquire a few nifty skills to actually use, even though the speeches may seem a little too technical sometimes (wtf is RGB Profile, CYMK, etc, and how to use them?).
There were some people who were so bloody enthusiastic that they actually tried to copy down everything the speakers said, to the point of even illustrating the examples. All I did was jot down a few important ones I want to actually use (since my memory is poor and does not come equipped with a video camcorder), and they were all messy and all over the place in the folder-pamphlet thingy they gave us.
Ended a bit about 5, but Dinesh wanted to ask some questions to the master of mumbling Photoshop, Mr Ton, so we went with him for a while. Jon’s cousin fetched Dinesh back to his house in Taman Desa (both sounded and talked like very intelligent yet humourous people).
Dinesh invited us in to play a round of foosball since his dad bought a low-end RM1k plus actual foosball machine, but we politely declined.
Yadayada went back to Bukit Jalil, and Jon fetched us home from there.. reached my house at about 7pm.
I need some ideas as to how to approach watermarking. Should I do it smashpop style or Kenny Sia style?
