Putrajaya side trip

Relieved. When my Financial Accounting paper ended yesterday morning at 11.30am I was happy, as a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders – all the tougher papers are done now, leaving Macroeconomics I for next Tuesday to be completed.

And I’d say that my FA “tips” were about 75% accurate, the other remaining 25% I can forgive and overlook ‘cause like I mentioned before, I’m looking to pass anyway. :)

When I reached home my happiness level bumped up a notch when I discovered the Nissin Speedlite Di622 flash I ordered reached me in just two days from a Penang shop – lightning fast I tell you! (But then again I paid RM20 for the courier service, so yeah.)

And then my excitement shot up further when I read on ShutterAsia about this dude wanting to sell brand new Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lenses for only Rm250 each (cheapest market price was around RM285)! The only catch is I’ve to go all the way to Putrajaya to collect it, or pay the RM10 Poslaju in which I wouldn’t trust my lens could reach by Friday.

So I opted for the former, traded SMSes with the seller and asked Heng to teman me, and at about 2pm off we went to Putrajaya. Naturally as we weren’t familiar with Putrajaya we got lost a wee bit here and there but managed to find our way to the Masjid Putra where we were supposed to meet.

An angle of Masjid Putra. All the pics I took had a blue tinge to it ‘cause I forgot to switch to Auto White Balance and forgot that I switched the White Balance to Tungsten mode yesterday when I was playing around with the camera in my room. T_____T Haih, nothing Photoshop couldn’t fix but it wasn’t perfect.. the sunlight was strong at that time and I mistakenly thought that my pics were unnaturally light and the blue tinge was because of my LCD’s quirkiness, and because of that and I didn’t question further wtf.

The dude who sold me my new lens, and I used it immediately on him to test it out – fantastic blurred background thanks to the large aperture! :D Posting up his picture here just in case he conned me and my lens malfunctions two days later wtf.

But nah he was a nice, honest man – he made some small photography-related talk and I felt instantly noobish. “Wah this new 55-250mm lens that you have very sharp ya? Better than Tamron [insert model here] right?” and I wasn’t entirely sure wtf he was saying and simply agreed “Ya ya” so that I don’t look stupid wtf. Sigh so many things to learn.

The Serena I drove there, another test pic of my new lens. (Yeah the horrible blue tinge is very noticeable here.)

And when I gave him the can of Coke I bought for him when he requested me to (while I was away buying drinks prior to meeting up with him, the can drinks cost RM2.50, damn expensive lah Putrajaya’s things) and he was fumbling for some small change, I told him it’s alright he didn’t need to pay me that RM0.50 and he said, “It’s not right wan. Business is business!” and proceeded to give me the exact change.

And he kindly led us out of Putrajaya and taught me some way to bypass the toll. Which, long story short, when we went inside Cyberjaya, we got lost, phoned Kai Tzin, and managed our way out.. and we ended up paying two tolls wtf. So in the end with the combination of petrol + toll charges, I’m not sure if the lens was as cheap as before after all. >_>

But the short trip was fun, a break from the usual monotony-laden routine – it wasn’t everyday that I get out of Subang, I think I barely even stepped foot into the heart of KL more than 5 times a year. :/ There were plenty of Chinese tourists there as well, and Putrajaya was unflatteringly humid and hot, though I reckon come night time the scenery would be even more astounding. And it was unnaturally quiet too, and you can’t help but notice that the lands were too large with too small a population in it.

Reached home at about 4.15pm, then snapped some pics of Bunny for further tests.

He looked old.

At another angle.

Went with Ding to Jon’s house (Heng came separately) for DotA at around 10.15pm, forgot my laptop charger so I drove his Myvi back to my house – and I fell more in love with the Myvi, it was just so paper smooth. We DotA-ed for the first time in more than a month, went to Tanjung for a bit then Heng went back, dropped off Jon, Ding came to my house to further print some corrections to a Chinese essay belonging to his sis that I helped to print earlier.. and here I am.

dood it’s like what a 50mm will produce! it’s funny tho cause u gotta be quite far away to get a decent shot lol.

yea hate the blue tinge, n dun like the lighting for ur secnd bunny pic, sorry for teh anal;ness :P

I recommend Lightroom 1.4.1 by Adobe for your digital photography editing.

One question though – how did you miss the strong blue tone in the shots even when you take the pictures and then preview it in your camera (provided you did have a preview of the shots)?

Congrats on your 50mm! Great buy, I must say.

chris: well it’s a cheap lens after all i’d prefer to get something of a longer range (80mm or 100mm or something) with a larger aperture but those are expensive. :/ very in-your-face imo, to take pics with this lens.

nah that’s not being anal, that’s being critical and i appreciate that ‘cause after all i need comments to improve. :P

raymond: lightroom.. i’ll check that out, thanks!

yeah i re-edited my entry to include why i didn’t realise there’s a blue tinge there. sunlight was strong at that time, plus i thought the blue tinge was because my LCD screen was supposed to be like that.

i’ll be posting more pics hopefully over the next few days when i snap more. :)

When are you gonna test it out on us?!?!?!?!? =)))

Is it just me or is that guy who sold you his lens an Anwar Ibrahim lookalike?
