I’m currently addicted to reading this amazingly unique one-of-a-kind [insert other repetitive adjectives here] novel, Not the End of the World, which is a collection of short stories, but they weave and inter-connect with one another. A novel by Kate Atkinson. Rhymes with Parkinson.
If I may start, it’s a strange novel that starts off with a weird, almost mythical setting and as it jumps to the next short story, it returns to the world as we know it, revolving a woman and her family. Next..I’ve only finished the 4th short story out of its arsenal of a collection.
With this school holidays, I feel myself repetitively conducting a dreary routine. Waking up at almost noon, eat lunch, feed Rex (Ryui Bynn’s dog, more on that later), play Kingdom of Loathing for the entire frigging afternoon, dinner, study, online.
It felt so strange. I’m not used to holidays, since the amazingly stressful academic year has begun - including other non-academic pursuits such as the Leo Club, and the MapleStory fansite Jon and I have to regularly maintained (and we recently acquired a new domain and host!). And these holidays made me feel sooo lazy that I’m more inclined to be in front of the PC than pursuing any other study-related activities.
Now on to Rex. Heng Li was supposed to take care of him, and I somehow volunteered (not sure how it exactly happened) so I’m in charge of taking care of this rascal with no knowledge nor do I have any past intimate experiences with dogs (they had been largely un-intimate and intimidating).
So it went on fine the first day (Sunday) with me filling the entire yellow bowl with Pedigree. The next afternoon I went, the bowl was CRAWLING with an entire renegade of red ants – no wonder the bowl was still half-full.
This went on for several days (I have no idea how to get rid of the beastly things, even when I switched the bowl’s position which I realised by now is futile), until the food is empty. EMPTY!
And that was today. Gave him some white rice and chicken bones out of HL’s recommendation and later on in the evening, the poor dog was whining at me longingly at the plastic bag containing his food, and the bottle containing his Dumex milk >_>.
“Rex, sit. SIT. Hang on, I’ll give you your food soon. I SAID SIT DANGIT.” I put down the food on the table, and seconds later.
“STOP HUMPING MY LEGS I’LL GIVE YOU YOUR FOOD SOON!”
That dog is weird >_> I think he got used to my presence as well… and everytime he hears the keys jingling at his gate, he comes rushing to me whining. *has a soft spot for him now*
