Siew Kiat invited me to go for sky trekking at Taman Bukit Cahaya a few weeks ago, and I was having a hard time deciding whether to go for it or not. I wanted to experience something as unconventional and exciting as sky trekking, but heights is something that’s disagreeable to me, and such unfounded paranoia about falling to death keeps hitting me hard each time I’m placed in such a situation.
I asked some of my friends if they wanted to join.. but they didn’t want to sigh – all not that adventurous heh and some citing that it was expensive, but I decided to go. And went we did, yesterday.
(The day before I stayed overnight at Jon’s house playing DotA till 4am, and long story short Ding who earlier agreed to stay at Jon’s house walked all the way back to his house at 5am+ WTF when both Jon and I were fast asleep.)
So Jeremy gave me a wake up call, and as I was at Jon’s house, we both departed from Court 3 to pick up May Peng and meet up the rest at Court 8. There, in two cars, we departed all the way to Shah Alam for our destination.

Inside Taman Bukit Cahaya waiting for our shuttle bus to Skytrex! Also didn’t have to pay the RM3 entrance fee.

A total of 11 people went: me, Siew Kiat, Siew Hui, Siew Chuen, Jeremy, May Yee, Poh Yuen, May Peng, Kean Gin, and May Yee’s two friends Sook Kuan and Sweet Yee (spelling probably wrong).

Siew and May Yee.
When our shuttle bus moved us to Skytrex Adventure, we were immediately greeted by the French boss dude, and the first thing we were asked to do was to sign indemnity forms wtf. And after that, came the harnesses which were strapped tight to our body to ensure the ‘falling to death’ scenario does not occur.
We were then ushered to the ‘tutorial course’ to learn first and foremost about safety, and practising it religiously at all times by remembering to have the two carabiners of the harness fastened onto metallic ropes throughout the Skytrex course all the time. Even at the tutorial course itself, I was already feeling apprehensive about the idea of sky trekking when I was forced to come face to face to one of my phobias: heights. Especially since I was pushed to be the first person to test out the tutorial course =.=”
That’s me crossing a few wooden planks a few metres high up in the sky.

May Peng and Poh Yuen crossing said wooden planks.

I damn damn damn hate this particular obstacle – we have to swing on a rope and as we land near the net, stretch our arms out to cling onto said net. When I first did this, I must’ve done it too forcefully cause I heard and felt my arm pop wtf (as a result of not exercising for so damn long).

My feeling exactly.
The tutorial course was made out of crossing planks, rope + net, and flying fox. And when we were all done completing it, we were then asked to start the real course by climbing 12 metres high up the tree WTFWTFWTF.

mcb fucking scary okkkk. May Peng was the first to start, and I was fourth of the eleven to begin the course. ![]()

Poh Yuen, me, May Yee – before it was my turn to climb up. Each of us took quite a while to begin the course as the um climb was quite high.

Sweet Yee, Sook Kuan, May Yee.
When it was finally my turn, I deadened my resolve and began my ascent. “Fuck it,” I thought, “Here goes nothing.” One step at a time, one step at a time, my arms and legs pulled me up slowly but precise. But as I was halfway up, my fear increased twofold irrationally and I tried not to look down as the rest shouted and cheered me on. At that point, I was already giving up and wondered if I could just climb down and regard the RM35 that each participant was to pay as a free gift to the Skytrex operator.
I kept looking at the ladder steps right in front of me – neither above nor down. I didn’t want to know how many steps were there left, I merely concentrated on the action of climbing itself as I tried to keep the thought of falling 12m high to death from penetrating my mind.

When I was finally on top, the next obstacle which was walking through a net presented itself before me. Easy but fun though!
The next few obstacles include walking through zig-zagging wooden platforms, climbing another set of ladder that put us up to 17m high, FLYING FOX!!! (took me some time before I allow myself to jump off and glide through the air – I always thought somehow the cables would snap and I’d fall to death wtf) and some awfully bouncy cylindrical platforms that remind me of a videogame (all of us collectively agreed that this was the toughest obstacle).

We were supposed to swing on the rope and land on the next wooden platform, but most of us were too lazy to do so as it was incredibly hard, and merely walked across the planks with the help of the reenforced metal wire on the sides, whether terkangkang walk across or by walking sideways. >_>

Sweet Yee volunteered to help me to snap a photo – she said that I so susah-payah bring my camera all the way up and no one help me to snap my own photo is a kesian thing wtf. And shamefully I have to admit that I forgot her name when I was way up there and had to call her by saying “Hello” >_>.. Chinese names are so hard to remember ok!

This was May Peng and Poh Yuen across us from where Sweet Yee and I were – the first two person who started off the course, followed by Sook Kuan and me.

PY sempat pose wtf.

I thought this was a nice photo of our 2nd flying fox obstacle – you can see the carabiners (those yellow and blue things with a metallic hook attached to them) secured to the rope there.

Me on another net-bridge. It was always fun to walk across this as it’s the ‘easiest’ obstacle lol.

May Yee on top of said bridge. Reason why I can actually snap this photo from below is because we actually have to climb down a set of ladders at one point, which was a little scary – I hate climbing up/down ladders zzz.

There were also two exits along the way, labelled as Chicken Exit and Ayam Exit LOL. The thought of being labelled as said mammal deterred me from going for it.

There was also this rope+net obstacle which was obviously higher than the one at the tutorial course. Frightening, and there was actually a flying fox shortcut that could bypass this obstacle! But the rest of my friends said nooo don’t be a wuss wtf. (There was also a few officers stationed below that advised us on what we should do when we were clueless or did something wrong.)

Me landing on said net – I was relieved when I found out that this was the 2nd last obstacle.

Kean Gin crossing a very long wooden bridge and accidentally brushed himself against a poky bamboo – this bridge was the 3rd last obstacle (see the diagonal cable going towards the right? That was the flying fox shortcut).

I left my camera at the platform as the rest asked me to – May Yee picked it up and camwhored lol.

The last long flying fox obstacle was freaking awesome where I finally exited the course! Look at PY’s expression below LOL! She was singing “We are the Champions” hahahahaha.

Another look at the bridge.

To properly show you how high the platform we were standing on is.

The exit net.. Jeremy being drama queen wtf.
There was this rush of relief and satisfaction of having done the entire Skytrex course that I thought was scary and near impossible to do – adrenaline-pumping and every bit worth the time (and my lack of sleep) of being there. I’ve no regrets of completing it either. :) It was also much shorter than we anticipated – the 23 obstacles were finished in about an hour and a half. And halfway through walking and jumping through the obstacles, I was slowly accustomed to being high up in the sky, so to speak – the paranoia was minimal.

Group pic ‘space’ shot!

Finally back at the Skytrex hut – that’s the French dude sitting there in blue.

Poser PY.

Haha PY said she looked like she wasn’t wearing pants.

Us returning our harnesses.

Why my seniors so funny ahahahaha.

Muka sohais as snapped by MY or PY.

Us drinking water and relaxing under the fan.

Me and MY.

Group picture! <3

Mata juling picture HAHAHAHAHA.
We took the shuttle bus back to the entrance, and returned to our cars. From there some of us went back, some of us (me, Siew, Jerm, MY, PY, Sook Kwan and Sweet Yee) went to Carl’s Jr Pyramid (again wtf) for a late lunch/early dinner.. and then headed back home at nearly 6pm.
Excerpt of a conversation between Jeremy who was driving and May Yee in the car:
“Cannot.”
“Cannot.”
“Cannotlah.”
“Cannot.”
“Cannot.”
“Can. Not.”
“Cannot.”
“Cannot..”
“CANNOT!”
“Cannot.”
“Cannot.”
“Cannot.”
“Cannot.”
“Cannot!”
“Cannot.”
Rinse repeat for the next 20 minutes until I finally reached home WTF.
