SPM Day 2: It’s fucking history.

The usual day-by-day analysis, with the all new estimated worst result!

English I:
Did the first question in 30 mins in two pages (didn’t want to spend too much time on it), so moved on to the continuous writing with question 2b, “Write a story with the title: An Unexpected Visitor”.

Because I was out of ideas and doing the same topic (Music) that came out for my trials won’t be a good idea considering how dull it was, I chose to use the same ‘Angel of Death’ plot with a little funny twist.

I thought dark humour would suit me (and the Cambridge examiner) well, lest it’s some freaking conservative idiot who thinks angel of deaths do not exist in their beliefs thus I have to be penalised.

Finished the essay with 10 mins left and spent the remaining time writing short points onto the question paper to be typed here. :)

Estimated worst result: A2

English II:
Too freaking easy, save for the literature which was a bit demanding in terms of your brainpower. Went out with 30 mins left to spend my time eating and studying at Maju&Maju.

Estimated worst result: A1

Sejarah II:
Imagine all the effort you’ve put into studying, all the study groups you’ve been organising and attending that have been doing nothing but History, and all your expensive time dissolved into thin air with stupid questions asked and none of the supposedly spotted topics came out. More than 6 topics were left out completely from the paper, as if they do not exist. Wtf.

I stared at the questions hard, and felt totally fucked. I felt totally cheated, as if the LPM (Lembaga Peperiksaan Malaysia, to those who don’t know) felt they should duly screw our lives by pulling off surprising tricks. Except we weren’t at all surprised but reeled in total horror.

So I walked out of the hall with only an hour left since I can’t write anything else. Nothing was coming out of my head, and there wasn’t any point sitting down there except to dwindle your thumbs.

Estimated worst result: C6

Pn Soong came by the ruang legar shortly after and asked what questions were asked. There went our tirade of complains.

So yeah, here’s roughly what I wrote for English I Question 2b :D And as you will read later on, I’ve recycled several ideas I’ve thrown about this blog.
---

I was twenty minutes in my deep slumber, unperturbed by other city noises emanating from outside. A gentle voice called my name softly.

Thinking it was my brat of a sister, I ignored her whimsical calls for me to be awake. She seemed very persistent and determined to rouse me from my sleep, and if there’s anything I hate the most, it’s someone disturbing me from my pleasant dreams.

Batting one eyelid open, I registered unconsciously a tall, dark figure with black flowing hair, and a dark cape and shawl about her. Didn’t Halloween just pass by unceremoniously yesterday night?

When I realised my 10 year-old sister could not possibly have grown twice her height overnight even with high heels, I shot out very awake. My alert mind saw the dark figure with skull for a head and bones for hands.

“Hello,” the skeletal figure extended its hands, her voice sounded hollow and unmistakably feminine. Given my circumstances of having to wake up just to face a skeleton draped in dark overall, I will have you know that I was very terrified.

“Hello…” I stammered. I shook her hands lightly, felt a cold shiver shooting down my spine and withdrew my hands immediately.

“My name is Lisa, and I’m your Angel of Death,” she said brightly.

Hearing no response from a very terrified guy, she continued, “You see, you have an hour more to live but we are willing to make a deal with you.”

Something she said pricked my ears up. “What, I’m going to die?” I yelled, shocked at this unholy revelation.

“As I said, we’re willing to strike a deal with you,” she said impatiently. “As we have a mix-up with some souls and names, all you have to do is to help us out and we’ll extend your life.”

“By how long?”

“That, of course, is private and confidential, as well as against the rules,” she said. “But we’ve broken so many rules now it’s not even funny,” she mumbled.

I pleaded her with my eyes.

“Alright, we’re willing to extend your life by more than five decades.” Another rule broken. Looks like decadence reached the outside realm as well.

“So what should I do?” I asked.

“You see, we need you to retrieve a dead body, and this is what you have to do…”

--

Forty minutes later I was still crawling and rummaging through the mountains of garbage at the monsoon drain behind my house, with flies sticking to me like bees to honey. I felt completely exhausted, dirty, and smelly. I kept telling myself that an extension of life is worth every minute of it.

I inhaled the worst stench I’ve ever smelled in my entire life, and finally found the decomposing dead man buried beneath one particular pile of rubbish and dragged him out to the open. Feeling tired, and the nagging smell reminding me of the garbage truck that passed by my house every so often, I asked, “What now?”

She smiled widely at me, wide enough to be suspicious and whisked the man away. “Thanks for the help. Your time wasn’t up yet tonight actually, I lied.” She faded away.

I stared blankly feeling completely smelly and stumped. I have just been played by the supernatural.

-end-

That wasn’t exactly how I wrote it, especially a large part of the ending but it was something like that. And somehow re-reading it again makes the entire thing sounds bad, oh well. It looked good on paper earlier anyway.
