Project 365 #42: Friday, 27th March 2009

Click to enlarge, and take note in particular, the speed stated at the bottom-right of the image. For the first time in nearly 3 years at the same college, I now only realise that my college has insane Internet speeds. It hovers anywhere between 300kb/s to 700kb/s on average depending on how many users are connected to the Internet in the college. Also I was downloading movies that Suet has recommended to me. :)

I brought my laptop to college for our IFP group discussion. We also had an IME VL from 9am till 11am – of which I could barely understood what the hell was going on.

We stayed back in college to try and finish off our work – but midway towards the evening I felt duly stressed out trying to race against time, and with the power of suggestion from Khai Shin, I suddenly thought I should watch a movie to unwind, so I rang up what few friends who are in Subang and eventually found Yen who could watch Talentime with me.

Also while doing our work – my job as the group leader was to also compile the entire assignment from works done individually as well as do various editing to maintain a semblance of consistency of a group work rather than individual work pieced together like a Frankenstein – Khai Shin told me I looked rather stressed. To which we stopped for a while to chat, and for some reason the conversation turned to this question: if a fire were to break out right there and then, what would we do?

Khai Shin looked around the room and noticed a window about one head higher than us, and then she told me she’d open it up and jump down the one-storey and break her legs rather than losing her lives. And then I interjected and said I’d wait for the firemen to come with their ladders blablabla and the conversation ended with us figuring out what positions we should be in while attempting said hypothetical jump – I jokingly mimicked a diver.

Definitely a load of bull, but it provided me a much needed respite and relaxed laughter from editing Khai Shin’s part and working out together the financial plan for the hypothetical family of Peter and Agnes and what amount to insure in the event of Peter’s unfortunate hypothetical demise, among other complicated measures.

At 6pm sharp we were booted from the only discussion room that has a power point, because the librarian told us that the discussion rooms would be closed at 6. I am quite puzzled by this because the library is open till 9pm, so it doesn’t make much sense.. but then again, policies by authorities have always been mind-boggling.

Mum came to pick me up at 7.40pm (no we have yet to finish our work), so on reaching home, I immediately ate my dinner, then Yen picked me up and off we went to Summit. I was dropped off first to buy the tickets while Yen looked around for parking space, and then met her up again at McDonald’s.

Ahh I guess there’s really nothing much to say about Talentime. :) In Yasmin Ahmad’s signature-style of weaving a tale of familial piety, friendships, and budding new love that transcends culture and race, this time we see a tale about the aforementioned three things, where school friends are tied together through a single event organised by a teacher, the 7th annual Talentime. An excellent film by my favourite local film-maker (if not the ONLY one..), I enjoyed this piece along with the brilliant songs played throughout the movie. To prove a point, Yen cried towards the end :P and I get my usual tingling, as what I’ve told Jess, was the maximum I could go for crying in movies wtf.

My rating: 9/10

Project 365 #43: Saturday, 28th March 2009

I arrived at college at 9am. On a Saturday morning, when I’d spend my time sleeping. To my surprise, my college’s entire parking ground was nearly full, until I found out that there was a basketball tournament going on – there were those from INTI Nilai, Taylor’s, etc.

I was alone for a full hour before Kenneth arrived – Khai Shin was in the resource centre working on a separate Law of Investment assignment. (So yeah, this pic was snapped with the self-timer with the camera positioned on the bookshelf.)

Again, I was rushing against time to complete it because we thought the library would be closed at 12pm, but it turned out to be 2.30pm instead. Nevertheless, I managed to finalise the whole thing by 1pm, while Kenneth proceeded to bind it and submit it into the appropriate assignment box. I would’ve submitted my Law of Investment assignment too which I quickly printed out, but I couldn’t find the assignment box for it at all. -___-

I’m not the type that likes to do my work on a last minute basis, so all this rushing takes a fair bit of a toll on me.. also probably because our management has this brilliant insight of making two assignment deadlines and two tests to fall on the same week. Clever much?

The rest of my Saturday was filled with studying for my International Monetary Economics (IME) test and watching two episodes of Heroes’ Volume IV to relax. As for Earth Hour, I actually turned off all lights of my entire household (parents were out), before leaving to Jon’s house to pass him some Wii softmod hack files and get some of my stuffs printed, where I also saw the guards of Court 3 turning off the lights too lol. I went back home just in time turn back all the lights on hahaha.

Project 365 #44: Sunday, 29th March 2009

Trying to compile my scholarship application to be submitted tomorrow.

I woke up at 12pm today, so much for the semangat berkobar-kobar of waking up early at 8am to do my studies. -____- But much of today saw me studying for IME because it is bleeding tough and confusing and extremely hard to understand – it could be because this is a Year 3 subject, or that my lecturer sucked in teaching, or my course guide is exceedingly hopeless in explaining things, or my textbook (which I bought original ‘cause apparently my upcoming subject would be using it too, which I would be studying in Melbourne) is filled with walls of text and further statistics which I figure is information overload, or all four.

In other news, I found myself reading loads of business-related news lately – I’m not too sure whether it’s because it’s very related to what I’m studying (Economics & Finance) or the fact that I gleam pleasure at understanding what’s being written or that I feel the need to keep up with the news of how to solve the worst economic and financial crisis ever to hit us. In fact, that’s what my visiting lecturer told us – that we’re studying economics at the most interesting time of our lives.

I’ve been picking up StarBiz to read, and I think I would’ve subscribed to the Personal Money magazine if not for my impending studies in Melbourne, thought I think I might just pick it up from a bookshop soon – RM8 or 9 for a wealth of useful information seems well worth the money imo. In fact, thanks to my visiting lecturer for both Macroeconomics 2 and IME who told us of The Economist website recently, I found it to be an incredibly interesting read as well, and what Mr. Maynes told us is true – the comments of other visitors left for certain articles were even more interesting, and he encouraged us to post our views too and read the ongoing debates on the site.

I haven’t been reading a magazine in ages. I used to read GALAXIE and Lime and whatnot (more for the posters really, to plaster all over my walls, to which my beloved mother removed each and every single one of them one fine day when I was away wtf), but I was reminded (from the lowyat forum) of the existence of e-books (PDFs) of questionable sources for magazines like Men’s Health and Esquire and whatnot – I know, this is absolutely not me, but I felt the need to try and understand this confusing thing called fashion and instil some much-needed fashion sense in me, especially since I’d be going to Melbourne in winter and there.. lies a treasure trove of possibilities to wear actually nice things for winter.

If you know me, you’d know that I lack fashion sense and I often just wear three-quarter pants or Dockers or occasionally a pair of pants that resemble jeans which I purchased of Wh at 1 Utama, followed by a tee. I don’t wear accessories other than that hippo tooth that Suet gave me on her return from South Africa that I wore around my neck every single second of my life since then – a good conversation fodder too because acquaintances often ask what tooth it is wtf, and my footwear of choice.. is.. Crocs, which I wear religiously. I think I must really look like a slob and a lazy arse, because I don’t gel my hair too simply because it find it annoying that I’d have to wash my hair when I get back from a long day when all I wanted to do is sleep.. obviously my appearances are in need of a change.

---

I’ll be extremely busy for the next four days – expect to see a dearth of entries.

OMG heroes season 4 is out?? i want i want lol to be fair, that’s the only tv series i religiously watch, so there! :P

i hate editing other people’s work too. especially grammar and spelling omg you’d expect people here to at least know how to spell or punctuate but nooo… i find it kinda funny that it’s up to an asian girl to do the editing and correct all those grammatical errors lol.
