The 3 Days of CNY

I went with my family to this huge temple in Jenjarom (or something like that la, I don’t remember the name) near Klang on Sunday, which was the first day of Chinese New Year. After driving there for an hour, we left in like 20 minutes because there wasn’t much to see, even though the decor is quite zen-like.

Some lotus pond near the entrance.

A row of Buddha statues outside the entrance.

There were droves of humans going in and out of the popular temple, and what disgusted me was a group of people singing live – those Chinese New Year songs you normally hear every fucking day on the radio or anywhere else you go, there’s no escaping it.

My family then decided to go to the Eye on Malaysia – in the end didn’t ride it as the queue was so long, infested with foreigners and non-Chinese, that it actually snaked till about 500 metres near the main entrance.

Since I had more time to walk around to find a great spot to shoot the Eye, I took plenty of pics while playing around with the ISO and shutter speed.

I couldn’t decide which of these two I actually like – what do you think?

A close-up on the grand eye.

When the time for the fireworks came, I went to the side of the lake facing the Eye, and found a spot where a horde of photographers with their SLRs on tripods were readying for action. Was quite embarrassed to be sitting/squatting among this elite troupe as my camera’s only a compact, point-and-shoot breed, while theirs look like they’re worth more than RM5000.

Obligatory fireworks, not as nice as the ones I took last Friday as I was playing around a lot with the shutter speed and ISO, resulting in really hideously bright pics.

If you’re wondering where the heck I’ve been in the past 3 days of CNY, I was actually out DotA-ing with a bunch of my mates at nearby cybercafes – till 3am, one of the latest ones. Suet phoned me on the 2nd day of CNY, and pondered out loud wtf were we doing at a cybercafe DotA-ing like mad lol.

..not that I actually know how to play that well heh.

We went to Shawn’s house on the 2nd day to gamble on mahjong and Blackjack but we didn’t really play much – ended up watching The Fantastic Four, and a little bit of Initial D and War of the Worlds on the telly.

Then on the 3rd day (meaning yesterday), Ding, Heng, Esther, and I went to Petaling Street to do a little bit of shopping while supporting the local piracy scene along the way.

As crowded as ever.

Notice anything else in this pic?

If you look closely – reflections! Wahahaha syok sendiri.

After walking around in the same area for 3 hours (the wan tan mee restaurant is fantastic – we ate there for lunch), we got ourselves some T-shirts, shoes, and sunglasses. I bought two T-shirts – one for RM20 and a Baby Milo pink (on a bloody S size, I was that desperate to get a nice pink Baby Milo tee, lol) for RM15.

Ding the driver, and the rest displaying our purchased products.

In case you’re wondering, most of the Petaling Street vendors are a bunch of desperate idiots who’d do/say anything to get you to buy their (somewhat pirated) products. For instance, when Esther and Daniel wanted to buy some Adidas shoes:

bq.. Esther: This size too big lah, don’t have smaller one meh?
Vendor: Can wan, the shoes can mengecut by itself wan!

Daniel: This size too small lah, can get me a bigger size ah?
Vendor: Never mind, the shoes can slowly expand wan!

dotdotdot what the fuck dotdotdot. Magic shoes by Adidas kah?

I just got back from a 2-hour DotA session at FTZ SS15 in which the four of us (me, FC, Ding, Heng) plus some stranger lost miserably to 5 other people. A lot.

Goes to show how guys could spend their holidays together in perfect harmony, living and breathing the spirit of DotA – which was ironic, because the lot of us once swore to never touch that game ever.
