The best job in the world.

I have the best job in the world, but unfortunately, I only worked for 3 days and yesterday might be my last day. It’s only on a part-time basis, and we worked almost like a mercenary: ie, only go to work when we were needed.

So the past two days Daniel and I have been working with Teck Seng and Tarzan at a UiTM main campus in Shah Alam. Nothing much to say about the first day of work (Tuesday), but I had little sleep beforehand so I was pretty much sleepy and tired throughout the duration of work. Work progressed as usual, installing CPUs at lecturers’ rooms, office, etc.

Here’s a pic I wanted to post before, but didn’t get to do so until now because my memory card reader went kapoot. All pictures taken with TS’s uber Sony Ericsson Walkman handphone and Bluetooth-ed to my own cell.

This is at the computer lab of some sort at another UiTM campus. First day of work. Despite the easy task, carrying around heavy CPUs and fragile LCD monitors is hard labour.

Right, so on the 3rd day of work (yesterday being a Wednesday), we were supposed to reach Tiong Nam before 8.30am, so we made our way half an hour early before the designated time.

We went to the campus with our two senior colleagues in two separate cars (a different senior colleague this time around, including the day before - think the name’s Ah Wong or something). On reaching there, our two colleagues who was working at the same location as us prior to that day, went to a separate block, leaving us freer to do whatever we wanted.

We followed two people, an old Malay woman who is with UiTM (whom we jokingly call her as mui mui) and another Malay guy who works in a different company than us, but he’s the.. software installer guy or something of that sort.

Because of some sort of bad planning on the mui mui’s part, some computers and some lecturers’ rooms were mixed up or sommat, don’t know the exact details. We ended up tagging them along and fixing up only 4 computers in a span of two hours. :D

Teck Seng squatting on the floor, like all of us did since there weren’t any chairs at the corridors (except for a few of ‘em).

Tarzan and Ding sitting down on a bench.. imagine getting paid RM7 per hour for sitting down. Woot woot.

Yay for brighter image. The dude on the left is the Malay guy I was talking about, hard at work, while the rest of us sat around, chit-chatted, and exploded in laughters.

Our mui mui on the left, talking to Ding and Tarzan.

We finally went up to the third floor where the office resides. We installed computers in the cubicles before this.

This is how the LCD monitor and the CPU (if you can spot it) look like.

Hard to camwhore with a tiny cameraphone but we did it. Oh, and that is Teck Seng’s hair - he never cut it since 4-5 months ago during SPM. -___- Believe it or not indeed.

Since we had practically nothing to do and weren’t needed, we sat down at their lounge, turned on the television, read newspaper (I ended up reading the entire thing), and slept (all while still getting paid ^__^). I needed the latter ‘cause I was freaking tired and after sleeping enough, I felt so much better. Have no idea how long we lazed around at the lounge though.

We went off at about 12pm for lunch at the cafeteria, which houses the worst food I’ve ever tasted in my entire schooling life. The food there pales in comparison to what our beloved Tien Tien Fatt offers. Plus it’s so damn pricey.

The outside of the cafeteria with plenty of wantans. It’s hot and stuffy inside the cafeteria, so anyone in their right mind would not want to stay inside.

So you see, we really should have brought along poker cards, mahjong set, or my DS. After our lunch ended up at 1pm, and our senior colleague discovered we really weren’t needed there at all, we were sent back to Tiong Nam and could actually go home.

We had to wait for Teck Seng’s dad at 4pm, so we went inside a container what I’d like to call as the ‘resting room’. Inside it were miscellaneous pieces of hardware, boxes and chairs. We chose to sleep and chit-chat. All while still getting paid. :)

What the resting room looks like. We practically lazed around.

We finally clocked out at 4pm because the boredom was killing us. Could’ve went home at 5pm but it was a wee bit too long when you have no poker cards or other entertainment sources to thrill you.

I doubt any other job offers such flexibility. I’d be working at F1 Sepang tomorrow with Ding, and since we have to wake up at 5am plus to follow my dad to drop us off at PJ Hilton - the pick-up point to Sepang - it’s gonna be three tough days ahead.
