I went to Midvalley at about 2pm all by my own to return tickets I was supposed to sell for a rave party event located at Bukit Tinggi and costs RM79 – high costs and a far-flung place really deters people from going methinks. And what happened with me trying to actually get to the Gardens parking lot was interesting:
I looked for signs leading to the Gardens and followed it, and for some odd reason, it seemed like I was just turning one big round and I arrived at where I started. No problemo, I thought, I’d just follow the sign carefully again, maybe I missed a turning somewhere, as impossible as that sounded.
Once again I drove and drove and returned to the same spot where I started. -___-
Getting more annoyed, I tried a different route this time even though nowhere on that particular sign did it state ‘Gardens’ but lo and behold, a few hundred metres into that junction I saw a sign for Gardens. And from there on, roads became familiar and I managed to find my way. Talk about stupid misleading signs typical of Malaysian road builders.
When I arrived, I was told by Yen Yee that our inverted-comma employer has yet to arrive, so from Gardens I walked across to Midvalley and spent my time at MPH perusing some books before settling on this month’s issue of Personal Money for RM9, a magazine that I’m really getting into as of late for managing personal finances and keep myself up-to-date with the current business environment. Obviously I wouldn’t have bothered to read even a single paragraph of StarBiz had my course not instilled in me a keen interest in economics & finance (particularly financial planning).. funny, I know, ‘cause I’m supposed to have an interest in a course before I actually sign up for it, but I guess familiarity breeds fondness.
But I digress.
In short, I went to Starbucks where the meet-up point was and returned my tix, saw some of my coursemates and talked to them for a while (including this incredibly tall dude whose name I didn’t know), then went back home. For some reason I felt this odd sense of liberation walking around on my own although I was feeling rather sick at that time.
I then left Gardens’ parking lot and drove out, following the Petaling Jaya sign and… yes you guessed it right, I WAS BACK WHERE I STARTED AGAIN. WHAT THE FUCK SERIOUSLY??
At this point I don’t know whether to laugh or cry or scream in utter frustration or burn down the bloody misleading signs. Undeterred, I used another route, spotted the PJ sign…
..and… returned.. to the same spot..
FML.
I was beginning to feel very pissed because I’m wasting precious time and petrol making several full circles all because of the signboards that were grossly inaccurate. Learning my previous lesson, I used a different road which was supposed to lead to KL/Bangsar, then a few hundred metres from there, I saw my PJ sign. -_________________-
Fuck these confusing misleading Midvalley signs seriously. Another reason to add as to why I don’t go to MidV that often.
Then I went straight to iCube to cut my hair – a much-needed one especially since I wanted to look good and presentable for my dinner later.
And so the Seafield 3 reunion I was planning turned out to be a failure of sorts. One person pulling out’s fine (Xin Min told me way in advance, so no problem there), another pulling out’s also not big of a deal, but when the next couple of people pulled out too at the last minute (not blaming you people of course), it doesn’t take a genius to see how pathetic this reunion was going to be.
I asked Geok Leng if she still wanted to go on with it, and she told me since I’ve already susah-payah organised it, might as well not let it to waste. So under the pouring rain with thunder and lightning flashing at short intervals, I picked up Jon and Geok Leng (who just shifted to her new house at USJ 11 a week ago, which looked terrific on the outside!) and off we went to Uno! Taipan. Few minutes later Wai Hong arrived too, having been pestered by Jon to come after he sent me an FFK SMS wtf.
We also joked that this seemed to be more of a USJ 8 reunion than a Seafield 3 reunion lmao. >_>

Aglio Olio at Uno! – delicious as usual.

We had fun talking about our Seafield 3 days.. although most of us could hardly remember certain names/individuals or events that transpired, and we noticed that many of our ex-classmates are now in foreign countries. Jon also remembered an incident involving our English teacher, Pn. Ling, and my then best friend Khairi who just transferred to our primary school during Standard 6 (please enunciate the following conversation out loud):
Pn. Ling: So where does your mother work at?
Khairi: ESSO.
Pn. Ling: Asshole!??
Khairi: Nono not asshole, ESSO!
Hahahahaha! I don’t remember this at all but Jon told us that it was from this particular incident that he remembered Khairi very well – because it was really funny.

Geok Leng.

Jon.

Wai Hong.

Group photo! Click to enlarge – took us multiple tries before we could even get a decent shot.

One more of us sitting down but boo ‘cause I’m out of focus (having ran into the picture after setting the self-timer and all -___-).
When Khairi’s back in June I definitely am gonna organise another reunion again despite this setback – it doesn’t have to be big, a small private intimate evening like this is all I really need.
We then departed at around 9.40pm.
Project 365 #51: Sunday, 5th April 2009

Found these angpows unexpectedly in my ‘drawer’ beneath where my laptop normally is – huzzah! A total of RM49 unexpectedly obtained adds to my happiness levels.
..although for the most part of the day I was feeling completely sick and miserable and angry. Sick and miserable because I was sick AND feeling miserable from it. Angry because I was wasting precious time working on a scholarship application for Shell, and because of their utterly un-user friendly and restrictive system, I think I won’t get to submit this application in time after all.
On a Sunday after all my tests are done with, all I wanted to do was to rest and maybe play some videogames or something to unwind and have fun, and I don’t think I’m even having much fun at all these days. But I had loads of work still needed to be done like my HS work and my Chinese and French homework, scholarship app aside, and that took up most of my time.
At about 11.30pm I actually went to Jon’s house to try and scan the documents through my laptop (took another 40 minutes to install some 600MB large scanner driver -__-, Jon had probs installing the drivers for his own server) and when we could finally scan, we found out the resulting images and converted .pdf files were too large – one scanned file is about 200kb, and this MNC merely allows a max limit of 500kb per document, of which you could upload a maximum of 4. I have like 20+ documents to scan and this limit is not enough at all.
At about 12.30am, I gave up on this stupid fruitless attempt that completely wasted my time – nothing feeds my rage more than wasted time ever since I realised that my time is a precious, exceedingly limited commodity.
Excuse me while I go burn down some signs.

LoL if it makes you feel any better, the last time we (as in me and my family) went shopping at mid valley we got lost trying to go home too; one minute we were looking at the mall, the next thing we know we were at the base of KLCC lol took us forever to get home from there.
or when we were going to my uncle’s house in seremban, with my cousin with us and we got completely lost and found ourselves at some random kampung, complete with bulls and everything, with a wedding of sorts happening too gosh it was crazy! couldnt find the sign or the road out even though the highway was right next to us (there was a hilly bit with trees between us) and when we finally did find a sign, it was a broken green one hidden behind a friggin’ tree!!
that was after our holiday in nz too. didnt get lost here, but got lost going to my uncle’s house. perfect. :P

i swear malaysian road signs are the bane of drivers, especially those who don’t have a good sense of direction (ie: me). i can go on and on about the serious lack of proper planning from our authorities.. even my french teacher who has been living here for nearly a decade commented that we have atrocious road signs. how embarrassing.
thanks for sharing that story. hey getting lost in a kampung with bulls and a wedding sounds unexpectedly fun. :P i expect nz’s road signs to be clearer and actually point you to the right direction unlike malaysia’s. -___-
