The Fat Lady Outside the Clinic

I was at Klinik Ooi at SS15 for a check-up on wtf was wrong with my stomach – maybe I’m imagining there’s a problem when there probably isn’t any to begin with, but let’s skip all the none too important part.

Halfway through reading Stories We Could Tell (on page 220+, *is proud*, only 70 pages plus to go!) while waiting for my turn, a college girl barged in to the counter and talked in an urgent tone that someone had fallen into the drain, and utilised the word ‘emergency’ to get everybody’s attention.

There was a new counter lady, and in my opinion, she was so pale she looked like she was sick herself, rather than one of those bubbly healthy people who usually man clinics’ counters. She looked blank, and bluntly said that the doctor is currently seeing a patient. Wtf if a person is dying by the roadside, is ‘seeing a patient’ that important?

The counter lady asked to carry the victim into the clinic, but the college girl said that it’s a ‘big, fat lady’. Ouch. But luckily for the lady whose girth is slightly insulted here, she fell right opposite a clinic, but straight into the monsoon drain (I don’t want to envision how she did that exactly).

Anyhow the doctor did come out (she’s one of the rare few doctors whom I trust) and went outside to see the victim, where there were a bunch of onlookers forming a circle around the poor woman. At first, the rest of the patients merely peeped outside (ah, so typical of Malaysians eh), then after a while did they only go outside to see what was wrong.

Haha let’s just say that I’m one of the curious patients from the clinic.

We ventured out to see if the Indian victim was alright, and the doctor proclaimed her okay with fractured leg (or something like that), so we, the patients, left her sitting by the drain as the victim said her husband was coming.

We went back inside, and after flipping through a few pages of my novel, apparently it started to rain (I didn’t notice), and some other girl came in asking for an umbrella because the poor victim was drenched with water. The same counter lady from before said the clinic didn’t have any umbrellas, so the girl walked out again.

What piqued my curiosity was this Taylor’s College athletic-looking dude called Mark (or some other similar-sounding names) who lives at Pangsapuri Subang (hey, one can’t help overhearing if you’re talking loudly in a small clinic right?) sitting opposite me. He has chiselled, strong, handsome features who went to the doctor’s with back complaints, but that’s beside the point.

The point was, he actually took out his folded umbrella from his bag on hearing the girl’s request, looked outside for a bit, and seemed hesitating to help. In the end, he put the umbrella back inside his bag.

Uh okay… maybe there already was outside help. I dunno.

Blabla skip all the doctor’s part who made me wait for quite a while (it’s the usual at Klinik Ooi, since the doctor’s rather long-winded but probably one of the best since she also reassures you psychologically), and off I went again to my car. There was already an ambulance outside, with a few people trying to lift her up onto the stretcher.

What most amused me at this point (ah, colourful Malaysians, we are), was there were people watching the proceedings from their own respective shops near the clinic. People watching an occurring accident isn’t the most amusing part since it’s pretty much a norm, but as I passed by a particular shop that sells handphones, this Chinese lady was saying very loudly to someone inside it, “Ohhh ceh dia bukan gila lah.

Erm dot dot dot. How the fuck did they reach the conclusion that a fat woman who sits beside the drain with a possibly broken leg under the rain as mad?

Anyway, I got inside my car (it already stopped raining) and made a turn to get out of SS15 and went pass Metropolitan’s bus stop when I saw Joe, who was busy toying with his handphone and looking out occasionally for a bus that he didn’t notice me waving frantically opposite him in my Matrix – I should’ve horned instead, but I didn’t.

I had this sudden surge of natural kindness in me, so I actually stopped my car near the post office, walked down, strode up to him to say hullo and asked if he’d like to tumpang my car? I’ve been in his shoes flagging down buses which can be a real pain even with RapidKL, plus he lives quite near my house, so why not? :)

Went swimming at night with Andy and Heng at our earliest time ever, reaching SLC at 6pm, where it seemed like a completely new experience, since we usually swim at night. Also had dinner with Shawn at the USJ 8 satay shop, and drove back home at 10pm plus.

Another day passes just like that. It seems like I had only just woken up a few hours ago – I think holidays do that to you.

Note: One of my new readers, Little Raymond, suggested that I put up Feeds and I did – they can now be found on the sidebar. I know most of my readers, if not all (of the handful I have), probably wouldn’t use it or don’t even know what a Feed is, but I guess if you vaguely know what it is, you might find it useful to have. ;)

Erm, I’m one of those people who don’t know what a Feed is.

Kesian the lady. And the handphone shop lady, damn funny.

i think it just goes to show how when anything ever happens, we will just stand by and watch instead of actually helping. >_> Not that I can help much to lift the fat lady up to safety lol.

Anyway.. if you’re using Firefox (not sure about IE or Opera, they should have the same features), clicking on my RSS Feed (or Atom Feed, whichever), will add my site as a ‘Live Bookmark’ somewhere on your browser. Means whenever I update, you should see the latest blog entry’s title on it. :)

Convenient I guess, if you don’t like checking my blog from time to time just to see if I have updated hehe.
