22 Feb 2005 7:19 amSUBANG JAYA: Once the most beloved class in the entire school by all teachers, 5 Arif is now officially the most hated class in school, and viewed with utter disgrace.
An undisclosed 2-page letter had been sent to the school yesterday unsigned, and in its contents, scolded teachers of various subjects such as Chemistry, whose teacher did not teach for an entire month; Modern Maths, whose teacher was absent for 2 weeks for an operation; Additional Mathematics, whose teacher was absent frequently, and et cetera.
Miss Then Shook Hwa, Biology teacher for both 5A and 5B, who was present to watch over and assist the photography session of various classes and clubs today, said, “It is not fair for teachers to discriminate the entire class just because of one student.”
“The tone of the letter was harsh, and it was written in good eloquent English. The parent of the “daughter” who was mentioned in the letter, had threatened to complain the matter to the Ministry of Education.” She also mentioned that she was incensed after reading the letter in question – there wouldn’t be any need to wonder what other teachers’ reactions were.
It was also reported that there were various clues in the letter that narrowed it down to the class of 5 Arif, such as one that stated the Modern Mathematics teacher who was absent for 2 weeks as she was the only one who taught the class, and the mention of Pure Science subjects such as Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and SPM.
Liew Suet Li, one of the Personal Relations officer of the class, was seen walking to the members of the Editorial Board during recess, and said, “We were scolded almost the entire morning by angry teachers, and we were like, ‘It isn’t us!’”
“Pn Ooi (Add Maths teacher) had spent the entire lesson scolding us and was in tears, saying she would stop teaching us. Pn Azila (Chem teacher) had also said, ‘Kepada sesiapa yang berkenaan, sila tukar sekolah.’ (To a certain someone, please change school.)”
Miss Then had also said that while conversing with Miss Ong (Mod Maths) while sipping some coffee in the canteen, Miss Ong had already said it isn’t fair to blame the entire class just because of one bad egg’s work.
It was also reported that Pn Rubiah, headmistress of the school, will be talking to the class of 5A personally soon. She was found in an angry agitated state when giving her usual speech during assembly yesterday.
Various theories were thrown about by teachers and students alike, with Pn Azila saying she had already suspected someone; Miss Then had said that it’s highly likely that the complaining parent, who sounded motherly in the letter, has a son in this school, instead of a “daughter” as mentioned in the offending letter. Liew Suet Li further said that it could be a frame-up by someone else altogether.
The entire class was left dazed and confused, with students from 5B laughing half-mockingly half-jokingly that now they wouldn’t have teachers proclaiming the qualities of 5A and praising the class repeatedly in front of them.

Not surprising that the teachers will feel “disappointed” or “dishearten”. I’m never a supporter of teachers in school because i think they are utter idiots.. well not all of them.. just most of them… as harsh or critical i may be the reality is, its so darn true..
I think a person has his/her rights to write a letter pertaining the teachers performances.
I do not feel its fair for teachers to be scolding classes when they do not have ample proof that a certain class in responsible for it.
I sure hope your headmistress do not commit a fatal error when she confronts the class personally. If she were to be mistaken, how will the whole school and parents of the students react?
Never assume on things of such magnitude..
Anyway juz imo, if you have done a great job in teaching, why feel “threaten”?
I dont get it.. people like to be praise… but when they don’t perform we can’t “touch” them? What’s wrong with this world? You can criticise your students for not studying hard enough and we can’t write a letter about your performances? Its bullshit imo…
Anyway, I might “terlanjur” cakap.. bcos this is and has been a personal experience… I go through it everyweek and it just disgust me. Also it might not be true with your school’s case as I do not know the real situation. So thousands of apologies if I went to far.

Hehe, I’m inclined to agree that when teachers perform well, they shouldn’t be feeling “threatened”.
Right now I’m utterly against my Chem teacher because of various reasons. My headmistress went to see some of my classmates but she simply said that she’s not blaming the entire class.
Or something. Even if she doesn’t, it seems that our class is gaining a bad reputation simply because of one bad egg.
Bad bad bad egg. =/ If we finally find out who this person is, he/she will definitely get it from the class, and ultimately, the school. >_>

there’s something i don’t understand quite right? why do you call that person a bad egg? can’t a person stand up for something he/she thinks should be change? unless, if its really a frame job, then by all means, do what you want…
I think the letter really put a dent into somepeoples’ ego. They sound more caught up trying to find the source instead of looking at what should be done to improve their performances so that no more letters will be sent.
Anyway I dun blame them.. we are only human.. its only natural for us to go with our emotions instead of logic…
