6 Jun 2006 3:59 pmWent out yesterday at around 6.50pm by Shawn’s car, picked up Esther, then we went together to Lakeview Club. Andy’s car containing Kai Tzin and Ding followed later.
Since Mondays are ‘free guests day’, we were allowed to swim without paying the usual RM5 imposed, although the swimming pool was too deep for my tastes (2.1m), plus there were quite a number of people on the shallow end. Nevertheless, we swam, swam and swam, although I did very little of my swimming routine since I had just eaten before I came out, and simply oogled around.
The shower/changing room was, by comparison, worse than SLC as it looked dirty and had no soap at all. Towels weren’t provided, and somehow, showering in the hot water there felt meh. Might be my imagination but the chlorine in the swimming pool felt more dense over at Lakeview.
We swam till about 9.30pm, before picking up Jon and headed to Maju-Maju to eat for a while, where we also saw Jun Man, Thomas and another dude I don’t know there.
We reached home at around 11.
Today being the ominous/auspicious 06.06.06 date, depending on your point of view (the demonic number 666 or the Chinese-Hokkien assumption that it’s thrice the luck), I daresay nothing much transpired as expected, since its just yet another day, and Heng came to my house at about 3.30pm after being bored hanging out at the cybercafe behind my house.
The both of us and Andy went to Summit to catch The Omen at 7.20pm (what better thing to do in this er, once-in-a-lifetime I-doubt-I-care date than watching a horror show??). And, we bought the tickets, let the dude manning the entrance tear our ticket stubs, and we were about to enter the cinema hall when..
*drumroll*
We got checked for ID!
Like WTF. DO WE LOOK THAT YOUNG!? (So yeah, maybe we do.)
This plump Chinese lady in her uptight costume (I refuse to call it an outfit) let a few elder-looking people in and stopped the three of us. “ID plz.”
I was just telling Andy that if we were asked for IDs, use the excuse that you forgot to bring them since he’s one month short of 18. Aha, I thought, just nice.
Heng produced his IC, I produced my driving license, then Andy said he didn’t bring his. “Then I can only let the two of you in.”
“Then what about him?”
“He can change his ticket to other movies instead.”
”...”
“Never mind lah, we’ll just change all three of our tickets since it’s not nice letting him watch alone.”
So I went to the nice counter Indian lady and asked very nicely if we could change the tickets from The Omen to 16 Blocks since one of us forgot to bring his ID (I sure as hell wouldn’t watch Tipah Tertipu, the only other movie close to our time). She in return told me nicely that she couldn’t do that but can only change one ticket.
Nuuuu.
:/
And heck, since all the nice middle seats are taken, both Heng and I decided on three rows from the front. We thought that perhaps after 10 minutes after the show began, we could sneak Andy in.
But nope, Ms Plump stood at the exit for the longest time ever and shifted her position constantly, heh.
SPOILERS AHEAD
I was actually quite disappointed with the movie.. even though I heard rave reviews that it’s a quality remake, etcetc, that they followed the original script faithfully except making minor adjustments to reflect the modern world.
That’s probably because I was happily anticipating the devil incarnate (literally) to like, perform his evil powers on us unsuspecting humans. The boy’s sole job throughout the entire movie was gazing deeply (and slightly spookily), and that’s almost 90% of what he did the entire show. He barely talked.

Spooky kid.. and his pet dog.
The story began with the prophecy of the Antichrist’s coming, something about Angels blowing their trumpets thus causing calamities on the world: they cited the 9/11 incident, the recent tsunami, etc.
Then the movie panned to a man, Mr Thorn, being told the bad news that there were complications in his wife’s birth, and the son is unfortunately dead. Most unsurprisingly, there was another delivery at the same hour where the mother died but son survived.
So, yeah, the father and the priest (“God will forgive this one tiny deception”) took the other baby as his son, lying his wife in the process.
Let’s just say that as he grew up, the people trying to investigate Damien (the boy) began to die. There were photographic signs (much like Final Destination 3), signifying an omen of death to come (where they die horribly just like FD3).
There weren’t many deaths. The suspense and tension was cleverly crafted, and being at 3rd row from the front, any sudden jumps or loud noise made me jump, literally. And these were not funny.

The photographer (who eventually dies) and the father.
So, yeah. Turns out that the mother of Damien is a jackal (subtitled as serigala) and Mr Thorn’s son didn’t die of natural complications, but was murdered. It was a gruesome image (a hole in the skull) when the two men went searching at a snowy tomb.
And yeah, Damien and his evil demonic nanny successfully killed Mrs Thorn after Damien’s murder attempt fail. The photographer died ala FD3 (a construction worker knocked a hammer, which landed on a metal bar thingy, which swung and cut his head off), then the father, when he finally dragged Damien to a church (while knocking the nanny over with a car in the process) and attempted to kill him with a specific knife that was given to him.
BANG one of the policemen shot him. Dead.
POTONG STIM SIALLL!!
And Damien, zomg, lives on. The end. wtf punya ending.
There were quite a lot of times when I already anticipated something to pop out suddenly (you know those quiet scenes in scary, dark places), but being at the 3rd row from the front didn’t really help at all since I got shocked anyway.
I rate this movie 6.5/10. It’s not exactly scary (there were more of the characters wanting to uncover the truth behind Damien than terrifying scenes), and.. while the premise of the story (it’s a remake after all) is interesting, the ending just baffles me. Apparently it’s a trilogy and there will be two more sequels. =____=
After hanging around waiting for Andy’s movie to end (surprisingly, although my cellphone stated my SMS was sent, Andy didn’t receive it at all), we met up at McD’s and discover Andy buying french fries, while Heng and I bought Wrapz, which incidentally is my first time.
Like they say, your first times are usually silly. I don’t know exactly what way to utilise to eat my chicken & cheese Wrapz (like, should I eat them ala burger, or break the pieces off one by one?). <_<
Went back at about 10pm.

I’m tempted to watch the classic punya sequels, since not sure oso whether the dude who make this remake will film the remake sequels as well. So you watched them before?? Macam mana?? Nice ah?
Aww the boy is cute! In formal attire some more… Did you know that boy in the original film appeared in the remake as one of the tabloid photographers? But dunno which one though..
