Went to The Curve yesterday for the first time ever. Left house at about 7.15pm and picked Heng and Andy up, then went to the direction of 1Utama.
Being a relatively new user on the road, and the first time we were venturing out pretty far alone in a new area, I looked up for maps, details, and any hotspots to go to on the Internet. According to Andy, we’d be bored out of our minds since it was only a shop-and-dine mall, with no cinemas. I’ll let the first-time experience at a new mall sink through.
After managing our way on the road by not getting lost in the middle of wow-new-place, by following signs and instincts, we reached beautiful ol’ The Curve. Sexy curves.
Different than your standard shopping malls, The Curve dares to be classy with a unique interior design and architecture, in terms of shop placements. The walkway aren’t always straight and only straight like other malls, and.. probably because of the way it’s designed, and the apparent lack of people on a Tuesday night, it looked huge. You can even access Ikano or IKEA just across The Curve.
After asking a helpful guard on duty where the restaurants were, we headed towards the Central court..and this is where we were even more impressed. They have names like “Asian Courtyard” and “Western Courtyard”, and it was in the open air, with really beautiful lights (blue ones on the ground, yellow ones above) and simply amazing decor. Reminds me of Bintang Walk, ya know?

The open concept of their Central court, snapped with ‘night mode’ on.

On Auto mode, it’s as close as how dark it really is. Not entirely dark, but with the tiny lights shining from almost everywhere, it gave a really good atmosphere.

One of the restaurants’ name, one of our inside jokes about Shawn’s live-in aunt.

The Western Courtyard. Reminds me of fairy-tales long past.

It does look like an intangible castle.

A picture of the Central court (which houses eateries and eateries only) from above. Doesn’t it look beautiful?

Another shot to capture how surreal the place really is. A must-go at least once in your life, since I suppose the target customers are the rich and the elegant.
Because of recommendations from a certain site I stumbled upon while googling for The Curve, we decided to go for Paddington House of Pancakes, despite the apparent lack of service.

Lovely ambience, with Italian Christmas opera music soothingly emanated from the speakers strategically placed at the top.

We were to eat pancakes as a dish. Our first time eating pancakes, ever.

I enjoyed the decor. Whether the ceiling fans on top had a purpose or not, since they have air-conditioners, we will never know.

Even their menu was different than other restaurants’. After finishing our food, when I wanted to snap more pics from the menu, I was told by a lady staff that they don’t allow photographing menus in some illegible fineprint I couldn’t be bothered to read.
The young, male waiter that attended to us seemed new, and didn’t know what to do. He didn’t seem to know the menu thoroughly either, and needed to refer to some code numbers next to each meal. When asking for recommendation, he had to ask his manager. When asked if we were allowed to take photographs, he referred to his manager too. -__-

From left to right: Fizzy Mango and Orange – RM7.50 (mine), Lemon Lime with Soda – RM6.50 (Andy’s), Fizzy Ginger and Orange – RM6.50 (Heng’s).
They tasted alright – a bit funky, except for Heng’s Fizzy Ginger and Orange, because I dislike ginger.

Treasure box – RM16.50. Chosen because of aforementioned site’s recommendation.
Delicious dollar-size pancakes, with assorted fruits that ranged from peaches and bananas to strawberries, colourful food dressing with a nice vanilla ice-cream on top together with nut shavings and raisins to complement it. Maple syrup enhanced the taste too. Shared the dish with Heng since I just ate my dinner earlier – it was really, really good. Mini-pancakes + tiny fruits = titillating tastebuds.

Andy’s manager’s recommendation – the Full Monty – RM18.50.
A full pancake, BBQ sauce, sausages, cabbage, a half tomato, red beans, an egg – all set for an American meal. Looked enticingly delicious, and very filling.

Another look at the surroundings.
The prices are not for the unaffordable. Once we had done paying, I had only RM1 left in my wallet, just enough for the parking fees.

The main stage and star attraction of The Curve. We were walking around, into MPH, and then into…

...Borders. Their second branch here, and I liked it very much. It’s huge enough to have two floors filled with nothing but books and mags. Unusually rare books could be found too.

The parking bay is every bit different as the entire mall is. It’s much brighter, has a different look and feel to it, and so much emptier than other busy malls.
We then went home at about 10pm, and followed the way back based on signs and instincts.
Dropped Andy off, and then stopped by at Shawn’s to initially talk about some things, before we slumped on his sofa and watched telly. Finally went back at 12.30am.
..slept at 4am, after twiddling with Hidden Street’s forum and read The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I have crazy sleeping hours lately, and with waking up at 1.20pm today, I’ve crazy waking hours too.
Edit: Since the Editor-in-Chief of CUE Magazine replied to my job application as a Freelance Contributor, I’ll most likely take the above ‘review’ on Paddington House of Pancakes, re-edit it into a proper food review and submit it for his perusal. >_>

first of all, i would like to say that you have amazing friends that are willing to lepak with you in nice places.
second of all, its nice that you can drive. i wish i could too. and its nice that you drive them around.
third, its a really nice place you went to. how come there is no such place like that in australia. or maybe its because i just never explored australia like you guys explore malaysia. any suggestions?

yo ozz!
1) yeah.. thank god I’ve some friends who’re willing to go out and lepak (some on the other hand prefer to stay at home)..but then money restricts where and how far we can really go.
2) When Shawn was the only one who could drive around liberally, we had to rely on him a lot. And if he didn’t want to go to a certain place, we had no choice but not to go there. So..since I want to hang out, and my friends want to too, I drive us around :P
3) I think you live in Sydney right? I’m not sure about Australia’s nightlife..but apparently shops there close rather early, maybe except for pubs or bars.
We only went to The Curve because we’ve never been there before..except for Andy :P If going out at night is not possible..I’m sure if your friends and yourself are willing to be adventurous (someone could drive right?) and invest some time, you can definitely find a good spot to hang out.
Best place to start with is Google.com =P

yep, everything closes very early. the place where i live at, “blacktown”, is extremely boring and has no freaking night life other than the clubs where people go to get drunk and play the pokies. my boyfriend can’t drive and some guys(according to parents) are not allowed to go out with “girls”.
I would love to go to some place like the curve. maybe i should try googling. but i betcha i wouldn’t be able to find anything interesting. even the parks are trashed. my bf and i are so bloody disappointed because parks are nice to hang at.
yes, and most of us not working, albeit no money, therefore, no going out.

Even if we can’t go out, sometimes we go to each other’s places and..watch DVDs, play board games, etc =P That doesn’t happen very often though.
