9 Feb 2005 8:15 pmSo on the night of 8th Feb, went back to my mum’s side to see my uncle firing up RM500 worth of fireworks - twice. Yep, so RM1k gone within several quick minutes.
I don’t quite see the point of buying such an item at SUCH a price that’ll wither and disappear within minutes. I can think of many, many objects of desire that will cost LESS than RM1000, and that’ll last for many years to come.
But perhaps his perception’s different. Perhaps he likes to see our smiling admiring faces at the sight of such a spectacle blowing up in the sky at such a close distance. It’s nice, I admit, but I think the fireworks on the eve of New Year’s every year are grander :P He could’ve channeled the money for proper use.
Anyhow, my town’s dead. Most of the people in my neighbourhood had mysteriously disappeared, shops seemed to be closing… what could have happened???
It’s Chinese New Year folks. The ever bustling Taipan seems dead, Khalifah for the first time has soo little diners, and no cars seem to be passing by my house. And that restaurant opposite my house that would usually be opened at this hour (it’ll close at 3am – it’s 4:02 am as I type now) is closed. Usually, I can hear inane laughters originating from that restaurant. Tonight, it’s soo silent.
And it’s a Malay restaurant. Earlier this morning (the first day of CNY), they were firing up firecrackers o_O ‘Twas really odd.
It’s almost as if someone dropped an infectious virus and wiped out all residents of Subang Jaya. It’s so dead like that Racoon City of Resident Evil. =/
An old, old, old friend whom I knew when we were in the same kindergarten and Primary 1, visited my family today. Long story short, it was frigging awkward. He speaks in Cantonese, and luckily, I’m not that bad when conversing in Cantonese… I can still hold basic conversation.
I met my cousins on the eve of CNY for the first time in ages. Melissa. I remembered when we were roleplaying Doraemon, playing all sorts of weird games… and we conversed in BM :), because of language barriers. And two nights ago, she spoke to me in English (she’s really trying!), and I had to smile in a rather fake manner because it was really awkward. Both of us. Meeting back an old relative/friend whom you’ve never seen nor talked to for the longest time even when you were rather close, is definitely a rather… weird experience. I guess. It’s nostalgic.
Now I’m wondering when my friends and I drift apart, when we meet (probably on Chinese New Years – it just dawned on me that CNY seems to be an excuse to meet up old friends/relatives, when it can be done every other day), would we feel awkward? I’m positive of that – yes. Although I’d still reminisce the days when we were young.
Went earlier at night to Soon Guan’s house, my best buddy and ex-neighbour. His mum’s currently in this crystal wholesaling business, and she gave me this rather awesome-looking hematite bracelet. :)
20th Century Boys. Such a thought-provoking, creative, exciting manga. Best piece I’ve ever read - really entertaining.
And as I also type now, the battle between England v Holland’s going on, and I wagered my RM10 on Holland, with 1/4 given to me by Shawn.
It should end good. I hope.
