Toshi goes to KL

Where to begin.

I started off this wonderful morning feeling a little disappointed that Toshi can’t go to school. Seeing Wai Hong’s I’m-about-to-die face didn’t make me feel any better. It was only when Toshi appeared at 2pm after school, joined us at Tien Tien Fatt (though he didn’t eat), and watched the two childbirth videos the guys were allowed to watch (he slept through 90% of it), I felt slightly better.

But somehow when I reached home, I felt a mashed up feeling of complete depression, devastation, and completely stressed out by the fact there are only freaking 99 days to go till SPM. For once, the weight of the world fell right flat on top of me, and after initially reading Heng’s blog about his leg, feeling a bit worried for him didn’t make me feel any better either.

Then I made some phone calls. Then I chatted with Toshi through MSN. Then I slept.

When I woke up, the world lifted its heavy rear end off my shoulders. I felt better. So much better.

Which goes to show how… occasionally, your emotions are as raw and as jumbled as mashed potatoes without sauce. Bad metaphor, but you get the picture. I hope.

That done with, I shall begin talking about yesterday’s we-bring-Toshi-to-KL event, which I initially put off ‘cause I was hoping to get the pictures from Wai Hong’s camera to post here, but seeing as that is not possible at the moment, I’ll forgo that.

I woke up at 7.30am, got ready, went online for a bit, chatted with Heng Li for a bit who wanted me to say ‘hi’ to Toshi, and we’re off to KTM Subang Jaya. We picked up Andy on the way as well.

Toshi apparently slept at 5am. And he appeared to be tired and sleepy, so I wasn’t quite sure whether he could last the entire day out. We reached considerably early at 8:45am, and Jessica actually reached there at the same time (a new record for the girls!). As expected, the remaining girls, Geok Leng and Suet Li, arrived at 9:15am.

We left the station at about 9:40-50am or so, reached KL Sentral, switched to Monorail, and reached Sungei Wang.

And the first thing we did is to go to this Chinese restaurant opposite Sungei Wang for breakfast. After walking around Sungei Wang for a bit (the upper levels which I never visited before), we went to the Hawker’s Center (which is the higher-class denomination for the road-side hawkers), and ate our lunch.

That was nearly 2.20pm when we finished our lunch, but we went back to Sungei Wang for karoake which we booked at 3pm. Red Box made us wait for a bit, then we went into room 21 (which was considerably large), and sing our hearts out.

Except that there weren’t enough Japanese songs, nor were they sorted out properly for the Japanese’s convenience. Seriously. The only song Toshi sang by himself was by Dragon Ash, the song title resembling something like “till the good day…” or sommat. And he only sang a max of 5 songs together with the rest of us… those Utada songs like First Love, Final Distance, and First Love again. Sad.

The rest were mostly Chinese songs, and finally some English ones. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I don’t like Chinese songs (there are a few I love to bits), but… seeing Toshi bored the heck out of his mind wasn’t exactly what we have in mind for him. At least, that’s my opinion.

But on learning that we have to dish out a freaking outstanding amount of RM30.00 per person for the karaoke, I sang my heart out. Esther’s favourite song, Since You’ve Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, I belted out, yelled, screamed at the chorus in her favour. And when Toshi’s favourite English singer, Avril Lavigne, with her song Complicated comes into play, he sang together with us as well.

He kept asking me for the time until it finally ends at 6.30pm, where we parted ways, leaving me, Wai Hong and Toshi heading for Berjaya Times Square. We hung around for a bit at mostly toy shops, and finally ate at McDonald’s. And both Wai Hong and I learnt something new from him yet again. While his BigMac was still in the box, he squashed it flat and when both of us looked at him agape, he looked surprised and said, “Eh. You don’t do that?”

Apparently, the BigMac seems too big to fit into his mouth, so he squashed it. o_O

That done, we left for Bintang Walk, where he was reluctant to go as he was both sleepy and tired but both of us were adamant that he should see the nightlife of KL. We told him it wouldn’t take long.

At the end of the stretch of Bintang Walk, Wai Hong decided to head off to JW Marriot Hotel to use their loo. We noticed a bunch of people wearing tuxedos outside the entrance, but thought it was normal with these kind of high-class hotels, so we went in nonchalantly. Toshi rested himself on a sofa, while we took the escalator down, where an AIDS function seems to be going on.

When we stepped out of the toilet, whom should we see but Toshi running down the escalator as if guards were chasing after an illegal immigrant. He talked to us breathlessly and gestured towards the top, “JACKIE CHAN!! JACKIE CHAN!!

And, by the holy grace of all holy mothers, Jackie Chan, that kung-fu superstar, that actor, that celebrity, that human we had never expect to meet, walked down the escalator, with bodyguards behind him. I swear the three of us were rooted to the ground, mouths agape, by some unseen power.

After getting over our initial shock and extreme surprise, I mouthed to Wai Hong, “PHOTOOOOOOOO!!!” and he immediately whipped out his digital camera from his pocket, while the two of us stared. And stared. At that familiar face that graced televisions and cinemas worldwide.

Holyyyyyy saintly cows from the moon.

For some strange, unknown reason, after Wai Hong’s camera’s flash alerted him to our presence, we bowed at him. He appeared to acknowledge our presence and bowed his head a little as well. And then he walked past us. And he wasn’t surrounded by raging, crazy fans, screaming their hearts out.

We trailed him for a bit until he entered the ballroom, which of course, we couldn’t enter, seeing people in formal clothes were everywhere with us walking about in completely informal clothes.

And directly after that, a Malay waitress talked to us, “Apsal tak salam dengan dia?”. We were so incredibly stupid, so shocked, so surprised that in that span of 20 seconds we didn’t think of shaking hands with him or ask to take a photo with him. WHYYYYYYYY OH HOLY PURPLE BUNNIESSSSS.

And it was after that, Toshi was fresher than he could ever been that night, given his condition. He told us “I’m very happy now” and appear delighted, and this is gonna be one memory he wouldn’t forget of Malaysia, I’m sure.

We took the Monorail at the wrong platform after our happy encounter, and ended up at Chow Kit instead of KL Sentral, which was utterly hilarious. We continued to berate ourselves of our stupidity of not asking Jackie Chan of ANYTHING at all when we had a good chance (even if he might say no) for the rest of our journey home.

We finally reached Subang at 10 something.

Yes, as for today, seeing as how during the dull karaoke session (for him) he told me he wants to visit Heng Li after I told him about his leg, and said he wants to buy durians for him, I brought him to Heng’s house at 8 something.

And the sad thing is, when I brought him to the durian stalls near my house, we ended up purchasing RM22 worth of TWO MEASLY DURIANS. They were of the Raja Musang variety, which was supposedly extremely delicious. You see, a Japanese guy who couldn’t speak English very well, and another Malaysian who did not buy durians at all in his seventeen years of living, ended up purchasing extremely expensive durians. The right word was we were cheated.

While my heart went out for my poor RM11 notes, I was guilty for involving Toshi in purchasing two small expensive durians. The seller, who speaks very good English for some reason (I expected durian sellers to speak pasar language to me), told us it was RM8 per kg for the tastiest durians of all. I assumed those two measly looking durians to be one kilo. slaps self

So we spent about an hour there till 9.30pm with Heng Li and Shawn… and Toshi knows how to mix with us very well, where we ended up laughing a whole lot, especially when Toshi made unexpected comments. Some were about the girls, which I’d think better than post here :P

At the end of the day, after I brought him safely back to Wai Hong’s house, I looked at my wallet. RM20+ remainder. Last Friday, I had a single RM100 note in my wallet.
