25 Apr 2010 6:46 pmLast Saturday’s Video Games Live has been an anchor of ecstasy and of much musical orgasm to Malaysian video game enthusiasts. I booked the tickets nearly a month in advance—for me, Jon, Ee Leen, Wai Hong, my bro, Chris—the very day I discovered that the tickets have actually gone live, and quickly snapped up the seats. Veritably some of the best ones were taken, but nevertheless we took the 2nd cheapest tickets (RM103) and they were surprisingly good, as we could see the stage quite clearly.

Our tickets.
Jon picked us up in his new Alza (Chris met us there), and sludged through the rain and the ensuing traffic jam for nearly an hour before we arrived at nearly 6.30pm at KLCC. We first picked up the tickets, went for dinner at KFC (after being told that we have to wait for an hour before we could get any seats at Chilli’s).

Dinner at a very packed KFC.

At the 1st floor near the Plenary Hall.

Jon bought a RM60 tee while we shared the soundtrack which also costs RM60.

Chris spotted me there (while I was chatting animatedly with my collegemates, Yu Foong and Eugene, who were there too incidentally, and the first thing Yu Foong asked me was, “So you’re a video game freak too?” lol), and he bought me this nifty, shiny necklace there.

And so, VGL begins at 8.30pm sharp.
Because amateur recording was allowed, I managed to take a number of videos for remembrance sake. I didn’t bring my DSLR too when I should, as I have previously read on the Facebook fan page that DSLRs are not allowed, but lo and behold many other people brought them along and used them freely. >_>
The Beginning of Video Games.
Introduction by Solid Snake and Tommy Tallarico.
Metal Gear Solid Theme.
God of War Theme.
Space Invaders.
Live Webcam Feed with Creator of Video Games (Ralph Baer); Shadow of Collosus’ Theme. Although some sources say that it’s not really a live webcam feed. >_>
Sonic Medley.
The Legend of Zelda (Solo Flute).
Kingdom Hearts Theme.
Snake Eater by Norihiko Hibino (from Metal Gear Solid 3).
Super Mario Bros Theme.
Final Fantasy VII’s One Winged Angel.
It’s an atypical orchestral concert in that it’s very interactive (Tommy Tallarico, the creator of VGL, doubled up as the MC, along with the conductor Mr. Hall), and the audience is allowed to scream and make noise unlike in a normal orchestral setting, which is what makes VGL such a unique, concert experience.
Waves of my early video gaming days surfaced along with nostalgia when the concert began. Surprisingly the hall was only about half to 3/4 full, and I could’ve moved to the front rows but no one wanted to budge. >_>

During the interlude.

My bro, myself, and Wai Hong.

Me and Chris, who was there with his wheelchair-bound friend.
And after the concert ended at 11pm, we noted the long queue for the signatures of the key presenters of the night and decided to join them. In fact we were one of the very last and it took us an hour before we managed to acquire the signatures, and I even snapped a pic (using Ee Leen’s camera) of the lady who dressed up as Link. =D The security guards hurried us along and only allowed one item to be photographed, so it was with luck that Ee Leen decided to join the queue that I gave her a postcard-like VGL memorabilia to get signatures for me while I had mine and Jon’s soundtrack album sleeve signed.
When we were done, we tried searching for the exit to our car park but got inherently lost when Jon led us the wrong way LOL. Turns out that we made a large loop when we asked a security guard for directions, and it probably took us 30 minutes to finally reach Jon’s car…
Suffice to say I spent most of the trip back home to Subang dutifully asleep, resting from one of the best musical experience any video gamers could have ever asked for.
